My Baker and His Challenge
February 23rd, 2010 by the1stdaughterPlease excuse me as I’m taking a small diversion today, because I just can’t think straight to write about books today.
The Baker in May of 2006, before our adventure to Law School would take us all the way across the country and end with the addition of two children, a lifetime of experiences and one law degree.
I take this diversion, because today is a big day for us. Today he takes the California Bar Exam for the second time, something neither of us ever thought would happen. See, he graduated from a great school with his degree in English (yes, ladies, swoon…he’s a reader too!) and then went on to a top 20 law school. Because I’m his wife I have every right to say he’s a very smart man and he is. So, when he found out a couple of months ago that he didn’t pass the Bar the first time around it was nothing short of devastating.
Today (and for a total of three days) he will sit in a room full of over a thousand or more applicants and retake what he thought he would never have to do a second time. It’s tough, but through this we’ve learned so much and have taken count of all we’ve been given; and it’s a lot. More than anything we’ve learned we need each other, and that is worth it’s weight in gold.
So, today, when you’re going about your every day tasks I ask you to keep him in your thoughts. This is a guy who to me has done more for me than I can put into words and I want nothing more than to make this happen for him. You wouldn’t believe all the hair-brained ideas I’ve come up with that he constantly agrees to and supports just because he loves me. He’s a wonderful, smart, fun husband and father, The Baker. Amazing.
Please remember him today and if it so be, keep him in your prayers. Every little bit helps. Thank you so much!

I’d love to know if there’s someone in your life who inspires you. Is it the person who got you reading or could it be your best friend? Tell me all about them! I’d love to hear all about them.

Wow. He will be in my thoughts that he does well.
People who inspire me…I would have to say my husband. He has served in the Active Duty Army for going on 9 years soon, I’m only up to half of that. He has seen the worse that the military can throw, taken it and still he keeps on going, and plans to stay in, to me that is amazing. He is the love of my life, my best friend, my book club, and my nurse when I need him to be (just had surgery).
Thanks so much Monica! Wow! Your husband is amazing! I just can’t even imagine having the stamina to do what he does, but thank goodness he does because he makes our lives so much safer. Hopefully you start feeling better soon as well!
Prayers for the Baker!!
Your post brought tears to my eyes.
Good luck Baker!
Thank you Abbie! He’s going to do great, I just know it. I only wish there was some way around the long process of it all, but then what would we learn from that?
I’m giving away positive vibes to The Baker today =) I wish I’d one day find a guy as excellent as he is. Best wishes to you, Baker!

Thank you Shy! You will! One day, I’m sure of it. I got married a little bit older and I’m glad I waited because he was so worth it!
He is amazing, even if I say so myself. My prayers are with him and with you also. We’re all very nervous right now. I’m soooo glad you are staying with us during this time. I think we need each other right now.
Love ya – Baker’s mom
I completely agree. And I’m so glad we could stay, there’s no way we could get through this alone.
My heartiest good wishes for the Baker! Going through my own personal certification process right now, I can relate to the dedication, time and effort it takes to study for such exams. Support systems are vital for processes like this, and it sounds like the Baker has a tremendous one. Please keep us posted on his progress!
