Recommend Me is a weekly event hosted by Kate at The Neverending Shelf. All you have to do to participate is share a book that you loved reading for whatever reason. It can be something you read yesterday or years ago.

“So, part of the reason I included all three of this series together for my ‘Recommend Me‘ today is because you really have to read the entire series together. As a huge fan of Holly Black’s I reveled in each of the books individually, but after numerous recommendations to friends & family I’ve come to realize I may be alone in my feelings. Most of the friends/family that have read them after I had said the books didn’t really come together until they read the last one, Ironside. Which I agree, to a point, because in the last book the previous two stories collide and you have the whole picture there for the reading.
“However you go about it I would highly recommend any or all of these books. I devoured them and they still hold a special place on my bookshelf. I hope you enjoy them as well!”

I love Holly Black’s writing! I enjoyed Tithe, Valiant and Ironside, although I thing that Tithe is my favorite of the three. And The White Cat is on my wishlist as well, I can’t wait for it to be published.

I’m dying to read White Cat! I’ve actually seen it in some people’s “in my mailbox” posts and I’ve been so jealous. I’ll just have to wait it out like the rest of us!
I wasn’t crazy about Tithe. After reading your post, I may have to give the series another try though.

Oh, definitely! They really come together by the last one.
I read the first two books in this trilogy a few years ago, but never got around to picking up Ironside when it came out. Now that I read your recommendation of reading them in a row, I’m wondering if I’m missing out on the Holly Black experience by not picking it up. The question now is whether I should reread the first two books to get reacquainted with the faerie world again.
I do love the new cover art for this series.
I also read The Spiderwick Chronicles. Much tamer, although there are some dark parts in that series as well.

Oh! I highly recommend it. I have numerous friends who just didn’t get into it until the third book. That can seem like a long way to go, but I promise it’s worth it!
I actually reviewed The Spiderwick Chronicles not too long ago, I’m just such a huge fan of Black’s. She really has an amazing imagination!
