Normally, this is not a site about music or a whole lot of personal, but I started thinking maybe I’d throw in a bit from time to time. So, to start off this “A Bit of Me” posting I thought I’d start with me…The1stdaughter…or as some of you know, Danielle.

I’m a music lover, through and through. I’ve played the flute since about the age of eight years old and it took almost 3 months to even get a beginning sound out. Talk about persistence! The other girls in my group were playing by the second lesson. But even with the initial struggle I still managed to make it part of me. Outside of reading, my family and my faith, music is the most important part of who I am as a person. It even influences my reading.

Recently I was asked if there was something unusual or unique about my reading habits. Well, there is…I like to read while listening to music. I will actually read almost twice as fast with music on. Something about it moves my pace. I know, most of you are going…no way! But there are some of you who might agree. I’d love to know!

For the comments: Do you have any funny/quirky reading habits?

As an added bonus I thought I’d post this fantastic new music video from Mindy Gledhill. This song, All About Your Heart, is featured on the new NieNie Dialogues video and I absolutely can’t stop listening to it. Something about it and the story it’s featured in makes my heart soar. Not to mention that the little girl in the video reminds me of myself at that age. Just lovely.

Until next time!
Much Love, The1stdaughter (Danielle)

I like to read with soft piano music playing in my ears. I don’t know if I read any faster, but I do think it helps me focus. I can be sitting in the family room with kids and husband all around, and still pay attention to the story. Plus, I think it adds to the cozy feeling I get whenever I read. It is not really funny or quirky though.

    • That sounds just perfect! I guess it doesn’t have to be funny or quirky, but I’ve had so many people tell me I’m odd for listening to music and reading. Nice to know I’m not alone!

  2. What a beautiful thing to share. Thank you.
    I wish I was musical.

Love the idea of this new feature! It’ll help everyone get to know the blogger behind the blog…great idea!

I too love music….though most of the time I only get to listen in the car traveling to and fro. I’ve been likened to a human jukebox at times…no, I don’t beatbox or something, but I have a knack for remembering song lyrics. Change the station, I’ll sing-along to that…change it again I probably know it. What can I say? Gotta have the music…

    • Thanks! I’m thinking of making it interactive by asking questions to be answered in the following weeks that people can respond to on their own blogs. I like getting to know everyone, so fun.

You sound just like my sister, she always said she couldn’t “play” any instruments but she could definitely “play” the radio. Love it! Music is essential for life!

I like listening to music and reading as well. It helps keep me centered and focused on the book and the time and pages just fly by. I never had the lung strength for flutes or for the trumpet that my dad would have liked me to play, so I stuck to piano & dance then as an adult, took up singing.

Music, to me, is so emotional. The lyrics speak to your soul and the beats let you flow:)
