There's A Book

When did you start your blog and why? Give us a little info about your blog too.
I started my blog and website exactly one year ago! I have been interested in photography ever since high school back when digital was just a dream and I was developing my own film in a lab. Years later when photography went digital my husband and I bought a digital SLR and two years later I decided to start a business/hobby in order to further my love for photography and bring in a little bit of money.

Tell us a little about yourself outside of your interest in books.
Well, I just told you about my photography. Besides that, I enjoy running, reading to my daughter who is two, cooking, baking, hanging out with my friends, traveling and spending time with my husband. I love being able to work from home and working on a more flexible basis. It allows me plenty of time to be with my daughter and it also allows me to read!! Reading for fun got put on the back burner during my undergraduate and graduate years so it’s fun to be back reading again.

Your favorite book from your youth and the story behind it.
I remember when I was in second grade, the public library would have a read-a-thon where you read a certain number of books and received a prize. At the time my favorite book was Black Beauty by Sharon Lerner.

I was in love with horses and this particular book was geared towards children my age and had the most beautiful illustrated pages I had ever seen. As I grew up I cut teeth on the Babysitters Club (which by the way, if you haven’t heard, the author, Ann M. Martin, just published a new book!!) and Sweet Valley Twins. Today I really don’t read any fiction (except for a few guilty pleasures maybe once or twice a year) preferring to read non-fiction, memoirs, current events, etc.

One of my favorites of her’s is the photo she took of the Vaux-le-Vicomte while traveling abroad studying for her master’s thesis. Isn’t it beautiful?

“Abbie is one of my dearest close friends and on top of that I absolutely adore her photography. She also has a beautiful little girl that shares The Turkeybird’s birthday just a year younger. I’m so grateful for the last year of law school and the time I was able to spend with Abbie, she’s someone who I learned very quickly I just could not do without.

“Also, you should know that Abbie and her family currently reside in the devastated Nashville Tennessee area. Abbie and I would both like you to consider visiting the Nashville Red Cross and/or the Do the Write Thing for Nashville websites to consider making a donation, bidding on an item, or just giving of your time. We know it would be appreciated.

“That being said, if you happen to live in the Nashville area or if you are in the Washington DC area (this summer Abbie will be there for her husbands internship) please contact her for a photo shoot. You will not regret it! She took my maternity shots when I was pregnant with Littlebug and then some of our family and I’m so happy she did!

“Thank you Abbie for stopping by and sharing your love for reading and life!”
