A Bit of Me(Me) – Five People for Lunch
July 2nd, 2010 by the1stdaughterWe all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.
I know, some of you are skeptical about putting yourself out there on the internet and I completely respect that. That’s the entire reason I have no desire to ever reveal the “real” names of The Turkeybird and Littlebug. In time, once they’re old enough, if they chose to do that on their own I will respect their decision. So, if ever during the time I’m doing this meme do you feel the question is just too personal for your liking, feel free to post something else, I never want anyone to feel uncomfortable with what they share and I promise it will always be “kid-friendly”. I mean, this is a primarily children’s and young adult site, you know?
So, let’s get started!
This Weeks Question: Name five people alive or dead that you’d love to have lunch with.
This is a question I could really go crazy with. I could come up with some amazing dead people that would probably talk my ears off and leave me nodding in agreement without getting a word in edgewise. So, instead of going that route, I’m going picking people that have influenced me at some time in my life and I’ll try to explain as I go along.
First up: Jean-Pierre Rampal – Some of you may know, some may not, but I’m a classically trained flutist. I’ve actually been playing for close to 25 years now and much to my mother’s chagrin I have yet to pursue it more seriously than an occasional appearance with a local group or orchestra. Hopefully when the kiddos are a bit older I’ll get to pursue it a bit more. But my reason for choosing Jean-Pierre has everything to do with how he influenced me as a young flute player. His playing is beautiful and when you watch him you can tell how passionate he was about the music. This is something to me, that is the most important part of music…how it affects you emotionally. I truly regret not hearing him play live before he passed away in May of 2000. Here’s a piece from his early years playing (that I actually just recently played while living in Virginia), Poulenc’s Flute Sonata mvt. 2:
Sherri Dew – I’m guessing that there are a few of you are going, huh? Sherri Dew is currently the acting president and CEO of Deseret Book, she has been a White House delegate to the United Nations and much more. None of this has anything to do with why I’d want to have lunch with her though. She is also a prominent member of the church I belong to, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and for a period of time she was very influential in my decision to seek out answers for myself. Her attitude on life and the trials she had gone through helped me come to a better understanding of how to deal with my own struggles while still be a strong woman in my own home. Besides, she’s just a truly neat person!
Stephanie Meyer – Yes, some will argue that she’s not the best writer, but I’d have to say she’s more than made up for it by her overall impact on readers everywhere. I’ve rarely come across a series of books I’ve read from cover to cover in a matter of days, all four of them. For me, she was instrumental in lighting a fire on my love for books again. I would love the opportunity just to have a normal sit down chat and talk about writing, books and life.
Ramin Djawadi – Recently he composed the score for the re-release of Clash of the Titans and I loved it! Ask my husband, this is highly unusual. I’m overly critical of movie scores and if one is not up to par it can entirely ruin the movie for me. In a day where every movie score is starting to sound like a new rendition of Hans Zimmer‘s Pirates of the Caribbean score, it was nice to have something different and engaging. I’d just love to talk with him about his composing and his future projects!
Ian Somerhalder – So, my husband will probably kill me for mentioning this, but who wouldn’t want to have lunch with the hunky star of Vampire Diaries? This is really just for fun! I think it would be a blast! He’d definitely add a little life to the party!
There you have it! My unusual lunch party. I’m sure if all of these characters were in one room together it would definitely be one of the most interesting gatherings ever. I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with!
Now, your turn! Link up below and tell everyone “A Bit of You!”
Next Week’s Question: What is one thing you are really NOT good at?
Have a question to add? I’d love some suggestions! Just leave them in the comments and I’ll see about adding them in as we go!
Also, feel free to grab either of the buttons for your own “A Bit of Me(Me)” post (or create your own), but make sure to link back to There’s A Book. (You can also resize these down to a smaller size if you’d like.)

I would love to have lunch with Jane Austen. She’s one of my favorite authors. I’d like to know what things were really like back then. And I’d like to have lunch with Anne Frank. She was an amazing young woman. I want to know what happened after her diary ended. Those two are all that stick out in my mind right now.

Jane Austen and Anne Frank are incredible women and the history from their time would be incredible! Great choices!
I took advantage of the dead people:)
I would love to hear you play some day. If I ever get my hands on a piano, maybe we could play together. (have a nice classical jam session, LOL)

That would be so much fun! If I ever manage to find a group to play in hear I will have to let you know about it and you can come listen!
I wish you could be at Comic-Con for the Vampire Diaries panel!
I’ve seen Ian live and in person twice now…but alas, no lunch. I do love him, though!

I know! I’m dying to be there too! He just seems like so much fun! And now…I’m officially jealous!
Great picks! I think a lot of people feel that way about Stephenie Meyer, including myself. And I added some eye candy to my lunch date, too.

It’s nice to hear that I’m not alone on the Meyer front. I feel bad, but sometimes I’m a little nervous when I mention how much she really inspired a lot of what I do now.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one with a little table decoration!
Well, you do have an intriguing collection of guests!
I’m sure mine will be nothing like your guest list! lol
Here’s mine:

Thanks!
I hadn’t heard of most of the people you mentioned, so it’s always nice to learn something new.
One interesting thing is that I interpreted the lunches as being 5 separate meetings rather than one with all of us together. Wonder what that means…?

I don’t know…I hadn’t thought of that, but how nice would that be to be able to have an individual lunch with each person!
So funny that you are a classically trained musician as well! Some great pics up there, Danielle and I had a blast doing my post for today!

Oh darling! I’m with you on Ian Somerhalder too! Oh boy, I don’t think I will even have a bite of food! Guess who’s on my desktop wallpaper is?

What a great question! I had no idea you played the flute- or that you loved Vampire Diaries! Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome! I had so much fun putting this together!
That is an eclectic group! But, it sounds like you’d have a lot to talk about. I didn’t do the topic for today (I had a really hard time coming up with people), but I did something a little less personal and more bookish. Hope it’s still ok I linked up…

Definitely okay!
I wanted my group to be a bit varied, and maybe I went a bit overboard.
Great picks. I used to play flute. I loved it but my mother made me take violin! Blah.

Yeah, I hear yah on the violin, I don’t think I could have done that one either.
[...] So, what about you? Who would you choose to have lunch with? If you wanna link up, check out the latest post. [...]
Sweet list
I <3 Stephenie Meyer!
I'm sure my list would be totally crazy wacky.

Thanks! Yay! Another Stephanie Meyer supporter.
My list was a little wacky, so don’t worry!
Doesn’t Dolly Parton seem like she would be a blast?

That’s so funny! My extended family were talking about her tonight during a game. She would be fantastic and definitely entertaining!

Interesting selection of dinner party guests…but then again this is all in fun! I can see why on a few, and your thoughts on them definitely reveal your fan moments, not so certain on Iam Somerhalder bringing a little “life” to the party, unless he comes as himself, and not his TV character. ^_^ A classically trined flutist…really? Planned for a very short span in school…never that great at it though…Mom wanted me to play the violin (something else I wasn’t destined to be a prodigy in either)….cie la vie! ^_^

Yeah…I’m not a huge violin person, so I’m not too disappointed you don’t play.
Although, that’s too bad you didn’t get into the flute too much.
LOL…Ian Somerholder, well definitely no life from his character, but definitely some great table decor!
