We all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.
I know, some of you are skeptical about putting yourself out there on the internet and I completely respect that. That’s the entire reason I have no desire to ever reveal the “real” names of The Turkeybird and Littlebug. In time, once they’re old enough, if they chose to do that on their own I will respect their decision. So, if ever during the time I’m doing this meme do you feel the question is just too personal for your liking, feel free to post something else, I never want anyone to feel uncomfortable with what they share and I promise it will always be “kid-friendly”. I mean, this is a primarily children’s and young adult site, you know?
So, let’s get started!
This Weeks Question: Who is your favorite female character, in a book or on a TV show/movie? Why?
Truly, could you go wrong? Hermione Granger is amazing! She’s level headed, intelligent, caring, funny AND she loves to read! (By the way, isn’t that first pic just so cute!?)
When I initially read the Harry Potter series Hermione blended into the story a bit, until the last book that is. In the final installment, The Deathly Hallows, Hermione stood out to me as an independent and strong leading lady. She holds her own against even the worst of enemies and still manages to get “the” guy. There’s just so much to her character to love that I could spend hours talking about her, she’s just that good.
On the film side, I remember seeing the first movie and thinking, “man, these kids kind of stink at acting!” Well, I’m glad both the actors and myself have stuck it out to the end because it’s definitely been worth the journey. There’s a scene in the fifth movie, The Order of the Phoenix, where Ron, Hermione and Harry are sitting around the fire place talking and something comes up and they all start laughing. It’s actually one of my favorite scenes in a movie ever. They all seem so natural, so real, it’s like you’re sitting down with the three of them and you can truly see them. I loved it. I’m so excited for the final movie to be released and just because I love it so much, here’s the trailer for those of you who haven’t seen it yet or who still need to be tempted to take a look yet again!
One thing I’m not a fan of…Emma Watson (the girl playing Hermione) and her new haircut. I can’t stand it! What do you guys think?
Now, your turn! Link up below and tell everyone “A Bit of You!”
Next Week’s Question: Who is your favorite male character, in a book or on a TV show/movie? Why?
Have a question to add? I’d love some suggestions! Just leave them in the comments and I’ll see about adding them in as we go!
Also, feel free to grab either of the buttons for your own “A Bit of Me(Me)” post (or create your own), but make sure to link back to There’s A Book. (You can also resize these down to a smaller size if you’d like.)

I actually love her new pixie look. She looks quite like Twiggy, another famous Brit. Fave female in books movies or TV. What a difficult question. I would think I’d have to choose Isak Dinesen. It may be the time I was introduced to her, just after my brothers death, or the fact that she was such a great story teller, I’m not sure which, but I just love her. She’s real though and not a character, unless you count Meryl Streep’s portrayal of her in the movie Out of Africa.
Her stories are magnificent.
I like the pixie look too. Some people can pull it off, she is one. Great choice and I am kicking myself for not thinking of her!
I’m actually still reading the Harry Potter books, ’cause I started a week or two ago, and Hermione is really nice.
And I don’t like her new haircut at all.
I don’t know who my favorite female character is because I read so many books and in many cases I read so quickly that I sort of forget about the characters after a day or two. Oh well. xD
I’m not a fan of super short haircuts – but some people look very good in them – she can pull it off. I would just look like a bouncy ball – a red one! LOL
Right at the moment I have at least three favorite female characters (books), none on t.v. Don’t really watch much t.v.
English favorite character would be Genny Taylor of the Spellcrackers.com series (Suzanne McLeod)
my favorite character of an alternate future would be Chess Putnam of the Downside series (Stacia Kane)
then there is the discworld series by Terry Pratchett – there are two characters that I love in that series – Granny Weatherwax and Tiffany Aching.
There’s really more that I love, but it would take a while and a lot of space.
I forgot the “why’s” of my favorite characters
Genny Taylor – bi-species woman who lives a double, even triple life of fighting spells, rude dangerous co-workers and tries to live a life despite her upbringing and…the man in her past. She’s strong, strong willed and stubborn as well, she has a hidden soft side that she doens’t ignore, she goes trolling at nights, looking for lost ones to take to safe houses and is always ready to help the down and out.
Chess Putnam – addicted to drugs, on a downward spiral with a lot going against her, living a double life and still going to work everyday, making things work, trying her best, even as she’s taking as much drugs as she can – she kind of stumbles through life, and yet realizes what she’s doing. She knows the negative possibilities, in the back of her mind even though she continues taking the drugs, silencing her inner voices. She tries to life an ethical life while she’s cramming the drugs down her throat and into her nose. Honest and yet totally misguided.
Granny Weatherwax – old, cranky, behaves as if she doens’t like anyone (behaves toward people the way I feel), and yet would help anyone who needs it. Though she’s a very powerful witch, she often is able accomplish huge feats and yet no-one is sure whether she’s using special powers or just psychology – and she’s won’t tell. Everyone (mostly) is afraid of her. She’s afraid of herself sometimes!
Tiffany Aching – probably just as powerful as Granny Weatherwax, she’s very young and yet seems to have just as much common sense and intelligence as the elder. Has made lifelong allies and friends with these crazy guys, little blue MacNacFeegles (I might have the spelling wrong, in fact I probably do)
This week’s question was a bit hard for me. You can see my answer here .

Great choice! I love Hermione too.
I agree with you about Emma’s new look. On the other hand, after spending the entirity of her teen years not allowed to cut her hair because she needs to look like Hermione, I can understand why she wants a change.
I love Emma Watson (she’s so classy) and her new look. Hermione is such a good character as well
I like the new haircut. I suspect Emma Watson is trying to distance herself from the Hermione character. It makes her look older and more sophisticated I think. It’s very flattering to her eyes.
Agreed!
She’s smart, fierce, loyal, etc. etc.
I love her.
And in the end she gets her man!
She pretty much rocks.
I’m with you on Emma Watson’s haircut…not that flattering, IMO.
What a great character, though.
I linked up mine!
I don’t love Emma’s new haircut either, but only because I think she was so gorgeous before. And I also know how horrible the growing out period is, I used to have really short hair like that, and I’ll never do it again because I *hated* how long it took to get it back to any other acceptable cut.
Anyway, I couldn’t pick just one, so I picked three
Oh My..is that new hair for a role or something? it’s really weird to see “Hermione” like this…and yes, she was the cutest thing was she was a little girl, I think I want a daughter just like that (holding up books and everything) xD great choice of favorite character, Hermione is definitely a role model.
Coming back to see who joined the party after I did and I also have a question suggestion. “Any other hobbies besides reading?”
I love Hermione as well, and am definitely not a fan of that haircut. We’ll all hope it grows out quickly! There are so many female characters that I love, from Anne Eliot in Persuasion (because she learned from one mistake and grew from it) to someone as silly (yet I love her) as Dr. Quinn.
We’re lucky to be surrounded by strong characters!
