A Bit of Me(Me) – The Men Who Make Me Tick
September 3rd, 2010 by the1stdaughterWe all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.
I know, some of you are skeptical about putting yourself out there on the internet and I completely respect that. That’s the entire reason I have no desire to ever reveal the “real” names of The Turkeybird and Littlebug. In time, once they’re old enough, if they chose to do that on their own I will respect their decision. So, if ever during the time I’m doing this meme do you feel the question is just too personal for your liking, feel free to post something else, I never want anyone to feel uncomfortable with what they share and I promise it will always be “kid-friendly”. I mean, this is a primarily children’s and young adult site, you know?
So, let’s get started!
This Weeks Question: Who is your favorite male character, in a book or on a TV show/movie? Why?
By far, my favorite two male characters from a book are Jace and Simon from The Mortal Instruments series. Honestly, I could pick almost any character from this series as a favorite, but these two really stand out for me. The banter and zingers they get in on each other is just what you’d expect of two characters from completely different worlds, not to mention they are both teenagers trying to prove something to a girl. It’s perfect and exactly the reason why, every time Cassandra Clare writes a book I pick it up! Here are a few quotes just to get your interests peaked if you haven’t already read the series or need reminding if you have:
“I don’t want to be a man. I want to be an angst-ridden teenager who can’t confront his own inner demons and takes it out verbally on other people instead.” - Jace Wayland (City of Ashes)
“Go ahead and ask her. Then she can turn you down and you can fester in miserable humiliation.“- Jace Wayland (City of Bones)
“Lately I’ve been cross-dressing. Also. I’m sleeping with your mom. Just thought you should know.” - Simon Lewis (City of Bones)
“Jesus!” Luke exclaimed.
“Actually, it’s just me,” said Simon. “Though I’ve been told the resemblance is startling.” – Simon Lewis (City of Bones, p.28)
“His poetry was terrible. It sounds like he ate a dictionary and started vomiting up words at random.” – Jace Wayland referring to Simon (City of Bones, p.40)
Okay, so I will stop there, but seriously it just keeps getting better and better. And if they didn’t make complete sense, you should just pick up the books, they’re fabulous!
As for a male TV Character I love. Well, those of you who have been doing this for awhile already know my answer:
- Now, honestly, tell me you don’t love this shot. The Vampire Diaries is one of my all-time favorite TV shows, because it’s a total escape. The characters are fun and the story lines are often a bit surprising (especially considering the season finale). But in the end it’s Damon Salvatore that makes the show worth waiting for each week. His whit, snarky-ness and smolder ability make me eager to see what new awkward situation he’s gotten into that week. If you haven’t been watching and you are a vampire fan in any form you definitely need to check it out.
- Yes, now you all know, I’m secretly an angsty teenage girl hiding in a 30 year old’s body. What can I say?
Now, your turn! Link up below and tell everyone “A Bit of You!”
Next Week’s Question (Brought to us by Gwen from Chew and Digest Books): Do you have any other hobbies(not necessarily talents) besides reading?
Have a question to add? I’d love some suggestions! Just leave them in the comments and I’ll see about adding them in as we go!
Also, feel free to grab either of the buttons for your own “A Bit of Me(Me)” post (or create your own), but make sure to link back to There’s A Book. (You can also resize these down to a smaller size if you’d like.)

I have been meaning to pick up The Mortal Instruments books and those lines make me want them now! I think that no matter how old we are, there is a wee bit of angsty teenager left:)
Oh, you definitely need to. The snarky dialogue is enough to make me reread the series multiple times.
Isn’t that the truth?
I absolutely love Jace so much as a character that I can’t stand it. He has so many personality traits and background details that are essential for me in any literary character!!!

I completely agree! He’s such a well written character, well almost every character of Clare’s is, but he’s definitely one of my all-time favorites.
I’m not a huge Simon fan but love Jace and although I haven’t watched TVD show Damon is smoking hot! He is the reason I am tempted to pick up season 1.

Oh you really should pick up the first season of VD! It’s truly one of my favorites without question and Damon doesn’t hurt as an added bonus.
I know that these characters, both in books and tv, are the current rage, but I am not interested in that genre. My answers are here.

That’s too bad! They really are fantastic, but I’m sure you’ve got great ones in your favorite genre as well.
What’s not to like about bad boy (vampire) Damon, although the whole bad boy thrill left me many years ago, I do like Damon, none-the-less. I have yet to read the Mortal Instruments so I will let you know how Simon strikes me when I do.
I can’t wait to hear what you think of Simon and Jace, you definitely should pick it up! As for Damon, yes, I’m not so interested in the bad boys anymore either, but it’s just his character. So many aspects keep me coming back week after week.
I haven’t read that series…sounds intriguing!
I thought about several other male characters—after I completed my post!
Isn’t that funny? I had the hardest time coming up with them for sure, but after I was done I couldn’t stop thinking of ones to add to the list. Never fails!
Wow! Great pic!!! Made my day!!

Isn’t it fabulous?! You are quite welcome!
Aah, Damon Salvatore! The only reason I kept returning to VD was for him. Man, I could look at him all week and not get an eyesore! His eyeroll, sarcastic jokes, and the Damonish-way of helping people are really impressive! Really looking forward to the premiere next week!

You hit the nail on the head! Exactly those reasons are what kept bringing me back week after week. He’s just amazing! And I can’t wait for next week, it’s going to be a great season I think.
Oh, I forgot about Jace and Simon! How I love Mortal Instruments.

Hehe.
I love it! It’s wonderful being able to relive our teen years again without all the negative aspects. I just love it!
A Bit About Me:
Okay, I’m a big Damon fan as well. I started drooling after him when he was in the film The Rules of Attraction.
Additionally, even though my blog focuses on vampires, I’m an out-of-the-closet fan of historical mysteries, in particular, those that take place during the Victorian era. Books by Tasha Alexander and Anne Perry top my list. But don’t tell my blog followers!

LOL! I’m sure they wouldn’t mind, besides I’m pretty sure quite a few of them would lean toward the Victorian era side as well.
I’m glad to hear of another Damon fan, he’s absolutely wonderful!
OH my goodness. Thank you for the trip down the old Jace/Simon zinger memory lane. Fun times.

And btw, you NEED to read the Clare books, they’re amazing!
I need to try The Mortal Instruments again… couldn’t get into it the first time. However, I TOTALLY agree with you on the Damon issue! Whoa. It starts up again tomorrow, doesn’t it!
