This is Our World: A Story About Taking Care of the Earth by Emily Sollinger

Published by Little Green Books (An Imprint of Simon & Schuster)

Pages: 12

Ages: 4-6

Publishers Summary: Do you know what today is? It is Earth Day! On Earth Day we work together to clean up the Earth. It’s easy to pitch in.

You can pitch in, too! Join the fun on this interactive journey while learning to clean the air, reduce pollution, recycle, and more. Nine double-sided puzzle pieces are included in this book so kids can create two different puzzles! This board book is printed on 70% postconsumer-waste recycled material.

Littlebug Speaks: Such a fun book! All the people in it are doing fun things outside, which is one of my favorite places to be. It also has really neat puzzle pieces that go in page after page and then make up a big earth at the end of the book. So neat!

My mom keeps telling me it’s all about taking care of the earth, but I just like that I get to help make the flowers grow. Which are also some of my favorite things and I’d hate for them to go away.

Mom’s Two Cents: This Is Our World is all about how little ones can help the environment. All of the children in the book spend their Earth Day cleaning up, planting and learning all about ways to make the earth a better place. Keeping it clean, healthy and beautiful for them as they grow old.

In our home we’ve tried to impress on our children the importance of taking care of the world around us. We have a small garden in the back yard, we recycle on a regular basis, buy from a local farmers market, use as little water as possible and much much more. But it’s little books like this one that help to illustrate to children why we do the things we do and how even the smallest actions can have an impact.

If I had any problems with the book at all it has to do with the puzzle pieces which aren’t cut exactly right to fit into the “world” at the end of the book. Both Littlebug and Turkeybird got a little frustrated trying to make them fit just right. But outside of of that, it’s great to have the pieces within the book because they provide even more interaction with the pages. Each of the pages is printed on recycled material, and though you can tell it truly doesn’t change the “look” and “feel” of the book.

This Is Our World is the perfect book for teaching little ones about how the little steps can make a huge difference in the world around us. From the oceans to our local parks, we can get involved and keep our world healthy and green. Perfect for little hands and minds, This Is Our World is a fantastic beginning “green” book.

The1stdaughter Recommends: Ages 2-4.With puzzle pieces and bright illustrations even the littlest reader will have a better understanding of the world around them.

What a great way to get little ones aboard the conservation wagon! With all the bright colors and smiley images, I can easily see how Littlebug had a blast with this one….and if the message carries forward, all the better for us all. Great post and definitely a great campaign!

  3. This is a book that I should share with my PreK children in our school library.

    Thanks for sharing.
