Book Publishers 101 is a new feature here at There’s A Book! Each month we will spend an entire month highlighting one of our favorite book publishers. What this means for you…a chance to get to know a publisher you may have not known before with a “behind the scenes” look, an opportunity to “link-up” posts you might have from the featured publisher, guest posts, author interviews, a look at their newest titles and of course a chance to win some great books! We know you will enjoy getting to know these amazing publishers and hope that you’ll learn something you may have not already known!
Our Publisher 101 Featured Publisher for the month of May is:
Walden Pond Press is joint venture between HarperCollins Pulbishers and Walden Media, the production company behind such films as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Holes, Charlotte’s Web and Bridge to Terabithia, among other movies. We are a small, boutique imprint that focuses on publishing 6-10 high quality middle grade books every year. WPP came onto the scene in the winter of 2010 with Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce, and since then we have launched Jon Scieszka’s Guys Read Library: a series of short story collections by top notch writers, Chris Rylander’s The Fourth Stall, M.P. Kozlowsky’s Juniper Berry, and Richard Newsome’s The Archer Legacy series, among other titles. Jordan Brown is our imprint editor at Harper and we are published under Donna Bray and Alessandra Balzer. There are three of us on the publishing team at Walden, Debbie, Kellie and Chip – both teams work together to find, produce, and market a select list of titles every year.
Obviously I’m thrilled to have Walden Pond Press featured here at There’s A Book! I’ve long been a fan of Middle Grade Fiction and felt it deserves much more attention than it’s received in the past. Walden Pond Press is an example of one of the finest in Middle Grade publishing and I for one have enjoyed every book I’ve read that they’ve published. Not only are their books entertaining and accessible for young readers they’re also complex enough that adults can enjoy them. So, needless to say, I’m excited for the upcoming month of features, reviews and more!
