Publishers Summary: As soon as the Moody family drops anchor on “Artichoke” Island, they are greeted by Cap’n Weevil, a one-eyed buccaneer with a scraggly beard and a secret treasure map. Before you can say “Davy Jones’s Locker,” Stink and Judy are racing across the island in search of gold. But — shiver me timbers! — they’re not the only salty dogs lookin’ for loot. Can Mad Molly O’Maggot and Scurvy Stink beat out their rivals, Tall Boy and Smart Girl? Can they find the hidden clues, crack the secret codes, and solve the tricky puzzles before time runs out! Aaarrr!
Avast, ye scum buckets and scallywags!
Judy and Stink co-star in their second full-color adventure — crawling with pirates and puzzles, carbuncles and chuckles.

It’s family vacation time again and Judy & Stink are hoping to find buried treasure on this getaway. It’s pirates and clues for the pair on this trip, with the only thing standing in their way being the competition of an unlikely pair who seem to be right on track with them. As each team races to find the treasure they bump into each other along the way and Judy & Stink learn that a little teamwork can go a long way.

Perfect for those long summer drives to vacation hot spots, The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt is perfect for young and old audiobook fans everywhere! When I initially received this version of the popular Judy Moody series I wasn’t sure my own two kiddos were going to enjoy listening to a full length chapter book. Well, I was pleasantly surprised! The Turkeybird, who recently has taken to having me read outloud to him from the middle grade books I’ve been reading was absolutely in love with this audio. Both he and Littlebug found Barbara Rosenblat’s narration to be quite funny and her varying voices for the characters brought the book to life for them. It really was a fun experience as this was our first attempt at a “longer” audiobook and they both seemed to really enjoy it, as did I.

As for the story of The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt, I found it delightful. I’ve not read many of the Judy Moody books actually and so when I was given this one for review I was a bit hesitant because I wasn’t sure about the brother-sister relationship. My own two kiddos seem to have a typical on-off love/severely dislike you relationship, but I’m always trying to encourage them to go in favor of the love side obviously. Again, I was as pleasantly surprised with this aspect of the book as I was with the audio version. Both Judy and Stink seem like a typical sister and brother who occasionally go through their ups & downs, but on a whole seem to genuinely get along even if it’s initially to fulfill their treasure hunt. In addition to the relationship aspect of it the overall adventure partnered with what I think would be a great vacation are the perfect combination for young readers.

Judy & Stink start the summer off right, in search of treasure and an adventure they won’t forget! In a story that will captivate even the youngest of readers this is an audiobook I’d absolutely recommend for a long drive to a great summer vacation. Filled with pirates, treasure, competition, a series of clues & puzzles to be solved and even a talking bird this is a story that will not only have readers waiting to see what happens, but provide entertainment along the way. Barbara Rosenblat’s narration along with Megan McDonald’s writing make for the perfect blend of storytelling that can be appreciated by all, young and old.

The1stdaughter Recommends: Ages 2 and up. A perfect audiobook for long summer drives to far off getaways or perfect for an afternoon in the backyard, readers will love the dynamic duo of Judy & Stink along with their adventure among the pirates!

Oh I didn’t even think of the brother-sister thing when I sent this to you for review. I guess it makes sense! Judy and Stink have their difference. As do many siblings. I’m glad it still worked for your family and that you enjoyed it.

  2. Oh, I’ll have to keep this in mind when Daniel gets old enough for it!
