This week’s feature…The Velveteen Rabbit by Ruckus Media Group and illustrated by David Jorgensen

Publishers Summary: Meryl Streep shares the tale of love so powerful it can turn a toy bunny into a real rabbit. Read along, play along, and record your voice with apps for families from Ruckus Media!

•READ the classic story!
•SEE the award-winning video!
•HEAR acclaimed actress Meryl Streep tell the story accompanied by pianist George Winston!
•RECORD your voice reading to your child!

Once upon a time The Velveteen Rabbit was “only” a treasured piece of Classic Children’s Literature. Now, technology has stepped in to bring together beautiful music, gorgeous illustration, a wonderful narrator and of course…interactivity. Read along as a Classic transforms before your eyes, bringing the love of a young boy to life in the form of a sweet rabbit.

Again, another book app that is just as beautiful if not more so than it’s Classic counterpart published years ago. What was so wonderful about this story besides the new features was the trip back in time to another place and set of experiences. It’s quite possibly one of the largest reasons I love reading Children’s books so much, for the return to my own youth and the accompanying experiences. To see and hear this sweet bunny come to life was something I remember only being able to imagine as a child. Now, obviously times have changed, but there’s still the opportunity to keep that original imagination flourishing in young readers by simply “turning off” features like music & narration. Instead, add your own narration and watch your children’s faces light up when they play it back on their own, I know my children loved that aspect.

A story that everyone should experience at some point in their lives, The Velveteen Rabbit is a story about grief and the power of love to overcome all obstacles. This was an app I was and am eager to continue sharing with my own children as time moves forward because the lessons are endless. With a beautiful accompaniment by George Winston and the perfect narrations of Meryl Streep this is a Children’s book app that both parents and children will love. Open this timeless treasure and be reminded of youth and the power of love to overcome all.

The Sweet and Savory Sum-up: A timeless treasure brought to life that’s perfect when shared between parents and children.
