Each week The Broke and Bookish host this fantastic weekly feature that poses different bookish questions. These girls have definitely picked some tricky topics to discuss, but at least it gets my brain thinking, which is a great thing!
This weeks topic? Top Ten Books I Feel As Though Everyone Has Read But Me
So honestly, I feel as though I’m about to admit some terrible sin that could result in a lack of respect, but I’m fearless…what can I say?! Lets just hope when this is all over you will all still think I know at least a little bit of what I’m talking about. So, without further hesitation on my part…let the flogging begin!

1. Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson – I know, I’ve forever killed any small reputation I’ve had as a children’s book reviewer by admitting this. But I’ve never even seen a copy of this at the library believe it or not! It’s a priority read though, I promise you that!
2. The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf – This is a story I discovered while I was interviewing other book bloggers about their childhood favorites. Almost twenty percent mentioned this book at some point in the interview. So yes, another to add to the “priority reading list”.
3. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett – This choice is actually based on my husband. When the movie came out not too long ago he was appalled that I’d never read the book. I told him that he needed to get me a copy! *Still waiting*
4. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault – Yeah, yeah….I know! I promise, I read a lot of children’s books! This one though, for one reason or another has slide under my radar, but not every other children’s book reader I know. Must be remedied soon!
5. Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney – Can you believe I’ve read the rest of the series and not this one? I know, it’s crazy!
6. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery – I fell in love with the television series of this popular book series when I was young. I’ve now convinced myself I’m saving actually reading the series so that I can read them with my daughter in a few years. I just think it would be so fun to do together!
7. If I Stay by Gayle Forman and Where She Went by Gayle Forman – A series that I think I’ve had checked out from the library at least half a dozen times on my eReader and just haven’t had time to read. I need to read this though! Everyone says it’s so so good!
8. Hate List by Jennifer Brown Everyone I admire has read this, specifically Amy from My Friend Amy and I always trust her recommendations. Still, not sure why I haven’t picked it up yet.
9. Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers – I’ve read all of Courtney Summers’ books and can’t wait for her upcoming book This Is Not a Test, but I just haven’t gotten to this one and I’d love to!
10. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins – Yes, potentially the worst offense in some of your eyes. This, the last book in the Hunger Games series, was actually a book I pre-ordered and had sitting at home the day it came out. My husband has even read it! But for some reason I just can’t bring myself to do it.

Yep, major offender here! I know I can’t be alone though!
Now it’s your turn, which books are you sitting on that you haven’t picked up yet and think everyone else has? Are any of them on my list?

I’d recommend all but 4 of these (the 4 I haven’t read). Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is one of my favorite (if not my *absolute* favorite) children’s books.
I still still have to read If I Stay even though I have it on my TBR read shelf and at the top of the pile (big pile though) Amazingly I have read a couple of the picture books on your list.
OMG yes! I’m still avoiding Mockingjay (even though I own it) and really want to read Cloudy.
I read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom within the last few years, after my son read them at school. The only other one I’ve read on the list is Mockingjay. I’ve never read the others. I often wonder if I should get books like Harold and the Purple Crayon so my kids aren’t deprived of a classic too! I’ll be reading Llama Llama Red Pajama for the Jumpstart Read for the Record event on Oct 6. That will be the first time I’ve read it.
I’m glad I’m not the only person who hasn’t read Anne of Green Gables. I enjoyed the show so much, I’m actually afraid I’ll be disappointed by the books.
Mockingjay made me cry! I loved it. But it also made me so sad to see the series end.
I want to read Llama Llama Red Pajama so much! I just found out about it a couple of days ago, but I think I’d like it since it’s about a llama. I LOVE llamas.
I’ve read the books 1 – 5 but none of the books 6 – 10. I absolutly love the Llama Llama books.
Oh pish posh. I’m in the same boat as you, haven’t read any of the above mentioned titles….though some have been on me to read IF I STAY very soon. (We’ll see…) I could add to your list a myriad of titles that I’ve yet to read….like FALLEN…and HOUSE OF NIGHT….and….need I say more? That difference in what we have and have not read though adds to the spice of our blogs (I think at least). It peeks interest in new titles, adds some to the ever growing wish list (at least mine is) and just gets the conversation rolling. So, flogging? Naw. Wish list additions and future reads? Most definitely. ^_^
Oh GO read every book on that children’s list!!! Ferdinand and Harold and Meatballs, oh my! Those are some of my favorites!! I can understand holding off on Mockingjay. I hate finishing a series but really…do read it, silly.
Ferdinand is one of my total favorites because of the Spanish bullfighter names!
I only read Anne of Green Gables last year and I had never seen the tv series. It was just completely off my radar as a kid. So you’re excused.
I love lists like these because it shows that there’s really nothing that EVERYONE has read.
Harold, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Chicka Chicka Boom Bomm were all favorites in our house when my daughter was younger. Actually, Meatballs still is, along iwth Pickles to Pittsburgh.
I’ve actually never read any of the Hunger Games trilogy.
I loved Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs as a kid, but it’s kind of lost its magic for me over the years. I don’t know why, but it doesn’t appeal to me the same way it used to. Re-reading it sort of disappointed me.
As for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, I was right there with you until this year, when I finally gave in and read it for a story time. And I guess there must be an audiobook version or something that people are familiar with, because adults tried to chant it with me, and I had the rhythm all wrong. But I guess it’s considered kind of a classic.
I bet Harold and the Purple Crayon is never at the library because it’s always checked out. That’s the case here, at least.
I’ve also never read Anne of Green Gables, and I don’t want to. That’s probably worse than just not getting around to it yet. Haha.
I love your list. I wish I had remembered to make mine!
