This weeks topic? Top Ten Authors I’d Love To Have At My Thanksgiving Feast

This started as a difficult task and then I thought that it really shouldn’t be. What I decided to go with were authors that have inspired and uplifted me. Those that have cried and laughed with me. Some I’ve met in “real life” and others I’ve simply wanted to know since I first read the words they felt compelled to write. These are the authors I’d love to give thanks to, for one reason or another. And of course, as usual, I’m positive I left more than a few off the list.

1. Jonathan Maberry – Having spent an entire weekend writing conference with Jonathan and his wonderful wife I’d definitely be eager to have them both for Thanksgiving. Jonathan has a passion & enthusiasm for writing & life that you don’t come across often. Not only that, but his books are incredible!

2. Beth Kephart – I’m one of the few in the “Beth Kephart fan-club” that has yet to actually meet her in person and I’d truly love to one day. I consider her a dear friend and who doesn’t want a friend at your Thanksgiving table? Plus, of course I’ve loved every one of her books that I’ve read.

3. Caragh M. O’Brien – Caragh is a favorite author of mine simply because her writing is so original and she’s also such a generous person. I’d love to be able to meet her some day and tell her thank you.

4. Mo Willems – How could I not want to share a Thanksgiving table with an author who has given me countless hours of laughter with my children? Mo Willems knows how to get parents cracking open the books again and again just to hear the laughter that pours from their children’s mouths.

5. Patrick Ness – Brilliant and incredibly humble, Patrick Ness is an author I’d love to sit and chat with about his inspiration and more. Definitely a favorite author of mine.

6. Melanie Watt – Again, another author who has given me countless hours of laughter with my children. Melanie’s an author that I enjoy reading all on my own, but love reading to my children even more. I can only imagine how much fun she’d be at a Thanksgiving party!

7. Ray Bradbury – This is purely out of curiosity. Bradbury’s books were some of my first in my venture into the world of adult fiction and they’ve continued to be some of my absolute favorites. I’d love to pick his brain and see where he came up with so many amazing ideas.

8. Catherine Ryan Hyde – Have you read her books? Seriously one of my absolute favorite authors and also a person I consider a good friend. Catherine is someone who I not only look up to, but also someone that I know I can have a easy conversation with every time we get together. I’d be a different person had I not read her books.

9. Alison Croggon – Alison is another author like Patrick Ness that opened my eyes to something more, a bigger world of books and imagination. Her Pellinor series helped me see that fantasy books can be more than just trudging through Tolkien, they can come to life and take you to another world entirely. I’d love to chat with her for hours about her ideas and how they came to be.

10. Karen Maezen Miller – Some of you may not know Karen, but her book Momma Zen completely changed my life. She breathed fresh air into my lungs at a time when I simply couldn’t keep going. It would be wonderful to even meet her let alone have her over for Thanksgiving!

Now, your turn! What authors would you pick to have at your Thanksgiving feast?

  8. I love a table set with friends I haven’t met and food I didn’t cook!

  9. Ray Bradbury would be on the top of the list. If Roald Dahl was around he would be even more on top of that list. There are so many awesome writers out there and this is a hard choice to make. However, right now I would love to share some turkey time with: Lisa Yee, Tom Angleberger, M.T. Anderson, Brian Selznick, R.L. Stine, the stable of Walden Pond Press authors and Scott Snyder (Batman, Severed, Swamp Thing comics writer). Okay, I realize that is a lot, but that’s what Turkey Day is all about – overload!
