There's A Book

Kiss Kiss by Selma Mandine

“What is a kiss like?” That’s what a teddy bear asks a little boy in this sweet and enchanting picture book. From Grandmother’s noisy kisses, to Father’s prickly kisses, to Little Brother’s chocolate kisses, Teddy learns there are many different kinds of kisses—but the best kisses are from the ones you love!

This was a Valentine’s Day pick for us here a couple of years ago (see the post here) and I still love it. Unfortunately I think it’s looked over a bit because the text doesn’t always flow as with most children’s books that have a sort of rhyme to them because the original text was in French and it’s merely been translated to English. In fact the original title is actually translated as “Kisses Kisses”. Even with the translation we still love this and would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet Valentine’s Day picture book to read with your kiddos.

I’d highly recommend stopping by Selma’s website! She has a number of the interior images from this picture book as well as a number of her other gorgeous illustrations on display. Be warned…you may spend a long time at her site because you enjoy it so much!

Lincoln has this one! I always thought it was adorable, but also quickly noticed that it didn’t have the typical children’s book “flow.” This explains that! And now I like it even more 🙂

  3. Since I’m Hispanic, we’re all about kisses in my house. I love this.
