There's A Book

The 20 Question Interview with our very own Turkeybird is our feature interview that will be happening with all of the book authors, illustrators and poets we love! Today the Turkeybird is extremely excited to share a favorite author/illustrator of his and his mom’s, Chris Haughton. Chris is the author of two “very cool” (Turkeybird’s description) picture books! We’re delighted to be a part of the Global Book Tour happening right now for his most recent picture book, Oh No, George! and hope you all will love it as much as we do! So, without further hesitation on our part, the Turkeybird’s 20 question interview with Chris Haughton…

1. I need to know, did George dig in the garbage?
If it was me I would have.

2. If yes, why?
Some things are just TOO good to resist…

3. When you were my age did you like to draw and read?
Yes I loved it! I liked drawing dinosaurs. Usually dinosaurs fighting with each other.
I loved books about nature, the Muppets, and fact books with diagrams!

4. Do you like to write or draw more?
I like to draw more.

5. Why?
All of my writing comes from the drawings. I draw the picture first and then I write something underneath.

6. What about now as a grown up?
I like non-fiction. I like lots of different things, such as history and popular science.

7. Crayons or Markers?

8. Why?
They have a nice texture and they are MESSIER!!!

9. What’s your favorite color?
I don’t think I have a favorite. I like lots of bright unusual colors. Blue/green/orange-y colors!!!

10. When you were four what was your favorite book to read?
My favorite book was the Muppets Annual.

11. Clowns? Why clowns?
Clowns are funny because they try not to mess up but they always do. I actually used to live with a very lovely professional clown who performs on the streets of London.

12. Do you have a favorite treat? (Mine is anything chocolate!)
Mine too! Also coffee!

13. Did you always like working on your computer? (I love my dad’s computer!)
Yes. I love my computer but sometimes I need to turn it off and do some drawing.

14. Do you play games on it or just write books?
I don’t play games on it but I have plenty of other distractions. Twitter is my latest distraction from writing books!

15. Cats or Dogs?

16. Why?
I just prefer their personalities and they seem to like me more!

17. Slides or swings?
Huge, big rope swings from a very high branch of a tree are the best.

18. If you were four right now what would you read next?
I think I would enjoy I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen. Or maybe a book about dinosaurs. Or a great book with lots of diagrams, maybe something by Stephen Biesty.
(We love love love I Want My Hat Back!)

19. Why?
When I was very young I loved diagrams.

20. What are you writing right now?
A book about three very silly characters who always mess up. It’s called Don’t worry, I Have a Plan. The plan is never very well advised.

The Turkeybird Speaks: “Whoa, thank you for such a cool interview Chris! Your book pick is the best because my sister, Littlebug, and me both love the hat back bear! Littlebug even has her own bear with his own hat. It’s so super cool!

“My mom has the same problem with that Twitter thing you were talking about, but I can usually get her to stop if I ask her to read to me. So maybe you should ask someone to read to you or have someone ask you to read to them? That would help, I know it!

“Thanks again Chris! Your George book is super cool! I especially like the part where he eats the cake because I would do the same thing. Hehe.”
