There's A Book

This Is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen

From the creator of the #1 NEW YORK TIMES best-selling and award-winning I WANT MY HAT BACK comes a second wry tale.

When a tiny fish shoots into view wearing a round blue topper (which happens to fit him perfectly), trouble could be following close behind. So it’s a good thing that enormous fish won’t wake up. And even if he does, it’s not like he’ll ever know what happened. . . . Visual humor swims to the fore as the best-selling Jon Klassen follows his breakout debut with another deadpan-funny tale.

Jon Klassen’s I Want My Hat Back was by far our favorite picture book last year. Everyone in the house loved it for a number of reasons. Enough so that we even did a fun photo skit to go along with our review! Now, there’s a second one! This Is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen comes out on October 9th this year and we can hardly wait! One of the things that’s so exciting about it for me is the way this second one reminds me of a video Klassen put together for an art gallery showing a couple of years ago. It’s gorgeous! Take a look:

Beautiful, don’t you think?

Also, for those of you who may not know this…did you know Jon Klassen is the illustrator behind these marvelous books as well: The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series by Mayrose Wood, House Held Up By Trees by Ted Kooser, Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett, Cats’ Night Out by Caroline Stutson, and Vanished by Sheela Chari? Pretty impressive! I’ve just received the latest in the Incorrigible Children series and I can’t wait to read it along with seeing Jon’s gorgeous illustrations!

So, what do you think? Are you as excited for the latest installment in the “Hat series” as we are?

  1. So cute. Baby Whimsy loves contrast like this.

  2. BTW I saw that you did away with sweet captcha. May I ask what sparked your decision?

    • I kept having people complain they couldn’t comment on my blog. :(

(Mostly I think they didn’t notice it and tried to comment anyway. But it’s sad…I really liked it!)

  3. Zoe says:

I wasn’t /am not such a big fan of I want my hat back as you, but I’m definitely curious and want to read this one!

    • I do remember that. hehe ;) I’m really curious about this one as well. I love the fish and his past illustrations that involve water, so this could really be fantastic! I hope you love this one a bit more than his last. ;)

  4. PragmaticMom says:

Yes, gorgeous! I heard some people say that I Want My Hat Back traumatized their kids. I need to check these books out. They sound fun and controversial.

    • Ahh…I don’t think the story would traumatize children. It does have quite a bit of dry humor, but I think it’s all about how you deliver it. Love these books…so much! And so do my kiddos. :)

  5. Sarah says:

LOVED I Want My Hat Back. My kids loved it as well. (they are 3 and 8) They knew what was going to happen…do different than watching a Disney movie really. SUPER excited for the next one…Jon Klassen is SOOOOO awesome!
