There's A Book

The Mouse, the Cat, and Grandmother’s Hat by Nancy Willard and Illustrated by Jenny Mattheson

This is Grandmother’s hat. This is the mouse that hid under Grandmother’s hat. This is the cat that waits to be fed . . . So begins a birthday party that is filled with surprises. Open this book–you’re invited too!

Some of you may already know this, but the background for our site was actually illustrated by the one and only Jenny Mattheson! The same Jenny Mattheson who illustrated The Mouse, the Cat, and Grandmother’s Hat as well as a number of other fabulous picture books we love. This one is no exception! I thought it would be fun to share the book behind our illustrators avatar…the kitty. We love it!

  1. Gina says:

How cute! It has me remembering the “there was an old lady who swallowed a fly” with the writing/rhyming scheme. Great pick!

  2. How adorable. I thought that art looked familiar.

Side note: I referred an author to you yesterday. He pitched me a book I will be reviewing and I told him to try you too.
