There's A Book

Welcome everyone to There’s A Book!

This week is an exciting week for me as it’s the first time I’ll be attending Book Expo America, the largest book publishing conference in North America. It’s been something I’ve wanted to attend for quite some time and now that it’s finally here I can hardly believe it! I’m most excited to meet some of the publishers, publicists, bloggers and authors I’ve worked with over the last three years.

For those of you visiting There’s A Book for the first time after meeting at BEA I’d love it if you’d stick around, check out a few of the features and reviews, and enjoy getting to know the reviewers

There’s A Book features reviews of books from children’s picture books, middle grade books, young adult books and the occasional parenting book. The picture book reviews you’ll find here always include my perspective as a mom and also the viewpoints of at least one of my two rambunctious kiddos. Some of our favorite books in the recent past include Boy + Bot by Ame Dyckman, Plant A Kiss by Amy Krouse Rosenthall and Peter Reynolds, and The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by Christopher Healy.

The site also features a number of features including Book Publishers 101, Interviews and our Picture Book Reading Challenge. Our interviews are incredibly unique because they are all done by the Turkeybird (my five year old son). Turkeybird loves getting silly with the author’s he loves and he’s  had a number of hilarious encounters including those with authors Jon Scieszka, Christopher Healy and Annie Barrows.  On any given day you’re almost completely guaranteed to find something you’ll love reading about…at least that’s what we hope!

Personally I’ve been a judge for the INSPYs this year as well as for the Cybils Awards both in 2010 as well as 2011. I’m an active advocate for children’s literacy and love working with parents to help them find books that not only they will love but their children will as well. Online I’ve been involved in a number of book community events including Book Blogger Appreciation Week, Share A Story Shape A Future, and am a founding organizer for Armchair BEA. Locally I’m also a member of the faculty for the Central Coast Writer’s Conference. Books are a way of life for myself and my family and sharing that love here at There’s A Book is something I’m very passionate about.
