Publishers Summary:

Just in time for Father’s Day, this hilarious picture book takes a high-spirited look at the way dads put their own spin on different parts of a child’s life–from going to a birthday party to bathtime. Alan Sitomer’s debut picture book is pulled from his own experiences as a father and winningly complemented with delightful art by Abby Carter.

Littlebug Loves Her Daddy: My daddy is the bestest. When he goes to work I get super super sad and want him to stay home and play all day. Sometimes daddy reads to me, but the bestest is when he plays in my kitchen with me. We like to cook fun pretend hot dogs and lots and lots of mac ‘n’ cheese.

The daddy in this book was even more silly then my daddy, but my dad is still so much fun and I wish he didn’t always have to go to work. My mom told me it’s Father’s Day soon like it was Mother’s Day a while ago and I’m super excited to make something fun for him because it will make him smile super BIG!

Mom’s Two Cents: Daddies and mommies are sometimes very different. Mommies can be serious, organized and fun to be around when daddies can be very silly, forgetful and crazy. In every home mommies and daddies are so very different, but to the children they love it’s not the differences that matter but how they love them that makes the difference.

To be completely honest, this is one of very few books I’ve seen a number of reviews for prior to reading and reviewing the book. Normally I avoid that like the plague so as not to taint my feelings or interactions with a book once I have the opportunity to read it. For a number of reasons I noticed how dividing this book was. Some loved the idea of dads being the “silly” one in the family and the entire concept of being someone a child could thoroughly enjoy. On the other hand I came across a few reviews where individuals were bothered by the extreme polarization of the mom and the dad with the mom being the steady force in the home. In many ways I actually agreed with both sides, but in the end I felt I could only take Daddies Do It Different by Alan Lawrence Sitomer for what it was…the experience of one dad in one particular situation.

In a number of homes the dad is seen as the “comic relief” so-to-speak and in our home there are many times where that is absolutely the case, but not always. Because I have the opportunity to stay home with both the Turkeybird and Littlebug things can get monotonous at times and sometimes the only break in our sometimes rigid routine is when dad comes home. That’s definitely not to say we don’t have our fun times, because that’s an absolute must, but I’m certainly more structured than dad is. What Daddies Do It Different by Alan Lawrence Sitomer shares is the possibility there is for differences between two parents and how at the end of the day it all comes down to the love each parent has for their children.

Within the pages of Daddies Do It Different by Alan Lawrence Sitomer readers young and old will find a tale of a very silly dad who loves doing very silly things with the kiddo he loves. Parents, no matter their age or sex, do things differently…people do. The joy found within the pages of Daddies Do It Different is evident with each silly situation the dad and his child find themselves in, but the love is clear on each and every page. And honestly, what child doesn’t need more joy and love in their lives?

The1stdaughter Recommends: Ages 2 to 8. A perfect story for Father’s Day and any day readers want to share the joy and love a parent has for their child. People do things differently and through these pages readers will discover a fun story about a very silly dad.

  1. Em says:

I remember having visits from my step-kids and they would always say, “Mom, doesn’t do it that way.” Too funny,

  2. Awwww I love the concept of this one. In this house I am more silly then papa. But papa is way more easy going then me. That being said, I still can’t wait for this one. It sounds adorable. *fingers crossed*

  3. V(Bookborne) says:

This sounds like a cute book!

I can understand both sets of reviewer reactions. Daddy is definitely the silly, rambunctious one in this household, but that doesn’t make him any less of a strong and steady parent :)

  4. Alan Sitomer says:

Just a really honest and fair review for my new book… and the love for your own kids shines through. Loved reading this.

  5. PragmaticMom says:

Love Littlebug’s post on her dad. So very sweet!
