There's A Book

This fabulous weekly recap is hosted by Shelia of One Persons Journey Through a World of Books and the kidlit version is hosted by Jen from Teach Mentor Texts. Each week we recap what we’ve read and look at what’s coming up this week. If you’re interested head over to Shelia’s site as well as Jen’s and get involved! It’s a blast and I may even stop by to see what you’re up to!

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:

This week has been crazy! I feel like I haven’t stopped moving since I went to BEA and this weekend was ALA. Thus the reason this is going up a bit late today, I’m just plain exhausted. I had a blast though and met so many amazing people this weekend! I’ll have a wrap-up soon, but until then…enjoy what I’m reading and listening to since it’s Audiobook Week!

  1. Lindset says:

Bluefish sounds like a great read and it has such a striking cover! I hope your week is a little quieter this time around. :)

  2. I agree with Lindset: Bluefish has a beautiful cover!

I’ve just finished Why We Broke Up, and I’m hoping to get to a few MG novels this week. :)

  3. Ms. Yingling says:

Whatever After looks fun– girls will pick up the cover. And I love Mlynowski’s Gimme a Call. I wish MY cell phone could do what hers did!

    • It’s really fun. A little lower on the reading level than I anticipated, but still very fun and would be great for girls around 7-9 most likely. And yes, wouldn’t that be amazing?!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  4. The Unruly Queen looks like an interesting book. I’m going to have to look for it at my library. One of my favorites is Pout-Pout Fish. I love sharing it with Kindergarten students. Thanks for stopping by The Library Gals.

  5. Lettie says:

Forgot how beautiful children’s book covers can be!
Your selection looks awesome- I’ve never really listened to an audiobook before I always feel I’d get distracted!
Can I also say how absolutely your blog design is!! I love the tagline as well as it is so very true :)

Have a lovely and hopefully relaxing week!

    • Thank you so much! I’ve worked for a while to get the blog to look just the way I like it and I’m so happy people enjoy it. Yay! :)

They truly are gorgeous covers, I love children’s books!

I hope you have a wonderful week as well!

  6. Crystal says:

I really loved Bluefish. It managed to get a few tears out of me. I think you will enjoy it. The Unruly Queen and Whatever After look interesting. I will have to look for them. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Karen says:

I’ve heard about Bluefish, but haven’t read it yet. The rest of these titles are new to me. Thanks for giving me something to put into my TBR pile. I’m really trying to broaden my horizons this summer.

  8. Maria says:

I think The Pout-Pout Fish is a “must read” in our house. Even better if it would be about a whining fish! ;) I added Whatever After to my TBR too. I love spins/spoofs on the classic fairy tales (see my constant cheering for Hero’s Guide). Have a wonderful week!

    • Whatever After is really fun! Not up to Hero’s Guide, but I wouldn’t put it in the same category…it’s closer to an Early Chapter book than a middle grade I think. I hope you enjoy it! Pout Pout has been a HUGE hit, especially in audio surprisingly. :)

  9. I’ve heard good things about Bluefish. Can’t wait to see what you think of it!
I loved following the sessions for ALA via Twitter, but I would love to actually attend one day. I am going to NCTE for the first time in November, and I can’t wait!

    • It’s SO good!

I can’t wait to hear how NCTE goes! Is it in Vegas or Chicago or somewhere else? I can’t remember. There’s one coming up in Vegas I’m considering going to. We shall see. :)

  10. So obviously I wasn’t paying attention to the fact that my computer auto-filled my husband’s name rather than mine on the previous comment. Lol!!

  11. Katherine says:

Lots of great books on your list! I really want to read Bluefish, can’t wait to see what you think.

  12. Thanks for visiting my blog. :)

You have so many cute books! I really want to read Bluefish-went to my goodreads account and saw that I already have it on my TBR list! :)

  13. I loooove me some Tumford. Isn’t he hilarious and so clever??? :)

What are YOU reading @ The Brunette Librarian??

  14. Pussreboots says:

Bluefish is on my wishlist. I didn’t realize there were more than one Tumford book.

My favorite read last week was Chi’s Sweet Home, Volume 1 by Kanata Konami. Please come see what else I’m reading.

  15. Linda Baie says:

I’ve heard good things about Bluefish, too. And the Bed & Biscuit book looks good. So many of these look good. I’ll write some down, am trying to increase my knowledge of books for younger students. Thanks much for all of these!

  16. Ms. O says:

Thank you for stopping by my little spot. I will totally be back to yours because it is fun!

  17. Kris says:

We love the Pout Pout Fish at our house. I am putting Bluefish and Whatever After on my TBR list. I just ordered Kate and Nate from the library. Thanks for sharing and visiting my blog.

  18. I agree with the others – Bluefish looks intriguing! Can’t wait to hear what you think. I also entered the giveaway for Heirs of Prophecy. My son loves the Beyonders books and my students love those and the Eragon series. It sounds like your description of the book fits with what I found when I read the Beyonder book 1 – but the kids love it.

  19. I recently read the Unruly Queen–pretty funny, and I liked the darker look to the book. Very Edward Gorey-like. I read Tumford the Terrible last summer and thought it was great, so I’ll look for that new one when it’s released. Happy reading!

  20. Earl says:

Sometimes it’s good to judge a book by its cover. I, too, may have to check out Bluefish!

  21. Earl says:

Sometimes it’s good to judge a book by its cover. I, too, may have to check out Bluefish! And, I recall from seeing Nancy Tillman at Wordstock last year how fond she was of Tumford.

  22. Kathryn says:

I am always amazed at the energy readers who link to Teach Mentor Texts bring to attending conferences and reading. I am an audio book listener mainly of adult books, and I must get back to it, have been neglecting it.

I haven’t read any of the books you mention. Tumford’s Inside Noises looks fun!
    Kathryn

    • I completely agree! It seems like everyone is so full of life and great recommendations. I love it!

I’d love to hear some great adult audiobook recommendations if you have some! :)

  23. Jen says:

So awesome that you got to go to BEA and then ALA!!!! I think they would both have been amazing. I love the bookish world. Kellee reviewed Bluefish on our blog but I haven’t read it yet. You’ve always got so many fun books! :)

    • I know! I really couldn’t believe my luck with the locations for BEA and ALA…it all worked out perfectly. :)

You would really enjoy Bluefish I think. It’s a gorgeous story!

  24. Pamela says:

Oh I LOVE Bluefish cover. A lot.

  25. Amy says:

Wow! I’m so glad to have your blog as a reference for this fall when I take my children’s lit class for my MLIS! Will definitely look to your blog for some good suggestions!

  26. Yay!! Bring on the audio reviews.

  27. Kellee Moye says:

    Danielle,

Thank you for taking part in the Monday meme :)
