There's A Book

I’m not sure about you guys, but one of the things I love most about hot summer days are the chances to get away to the movie theater with the whole family. Fortunately both Littlebug and Turkeybird are getting to the age where we can all head to the movies together, especially to see fun sequels and movies they’ve enjoyed seeing parts of at home already.

Fortunately, there are publishers like Harper Collins who make not only full length book tie-ins that kiddos enjoy, but they also make “I Can Read” books as well. In the case of Ice Age 4: Continental Drift, both of my kiddos have not only thoroughly enjoyed the previous three movies but now are excited to read aloud about many of the characters they’ve seen on the big screen.

To be honest, before having kids I was not at all a proponent of movie-tie-in books. As an adult if I saw a cover featuring a movie poster I’d avoid it and seek out the “original” cover. That being said, having my children excited about picking up books is what is my main priority right now. Yes, we generally tend to lean more toward traditional picture books, but on the rare occasion they fall in love with a popular set of early readers featuring the characters from Ice Age then I’m every bit as excited as they are. Because of that, I’m not only thrilled about the new movie coming out in about a week (July 13th to be exact), but I’m also excited for the books that accompany the movie and this fantastic giveaway I have from Harper Collins!

Not familiar with the Ice Age movies? A bit about ICE AGE 4: CONTINENTAL DRIFT:

Scrat’s nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn, which he’s been after since the dawn of time, has world-changing consequences – a continental cataclysm that triggers the greatest adventure of all for Manny, Diego and Sid. In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.

The film features the voice talents of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, with Jennifer Lopez and Queen Latifah. Peter Dinklage, Wanda Sykes, Aziz Ansari, Keke Palmer, Drake, Josh Gad, Alan Tudyk, Nick Frost, Joy Behar.

I used to feel the same way about movie books and toys. But when I see children go from seeing a movie, to finding the books and then continuing on with a series, it’s pretty satisfying. Of course some never get past that first movie, but when it acts as a stepping stone, oh My Goodness! :)
