There's A Book

Lovabye Dragon by Barbara Joosse and Randy Cecil

When a lonely dragon follows a trail of princess tears, a beautiful friendship is born. They march and sing, roar and whisper, hide and seek, then settle into snug companionship at bedtime. Barbara Joosse’s fiercely protective and gently loving dragon cavorts across the pages, endearingly illustrated by Randy Cecil. At the end of the day, who can resist curling up in the embrace of a lovabye dragon?

In her bed in her room in her castle, a girl longs for a dragon.
In his nest in his cave in his mountain, a dragon dreams of a girl.

Lovabye Dragon by Barbara Joosse is another book I read through at Book Expo America and fell in love with everything about it. From the little girl who reminds me so much of Littlebug to the illustrations that are simply breathtaking. This is a book I’m dying to pick up once it’s released in September!

One really fun thing about this book is the illustrator, Randy Cecil, is also the illustrator for a number of other picture books you may have seen out and about. He’s illustrated and even wrote a few of these great books: Horsefly and Honeybee, Brontorina, How Do You Wokka-Wokka?, Little Red Cowboy Hat, Gator and many many more. One of the delightful things I stumbled upon while prepping this post was Randy’s “About Me” page which details how he got started pitching to publishers with his brother at age eight! It’s a spectacular story, a really quick read and will most assuredly have you even more in love with his work by the time you finish reading it. So please do check it out!
