Publishers Summary:

The Twilight Zone comes to the carrot patch in this clever picture book parable about a rabbit who fears his favorite treats are out to get him.
Jasper Rabbit loves carrots—especially Crackenhopper Field carrots.
He eats them on the way to school.
He eats them going to Little League.
He eats them walking home.
Until the day the carrots start following him…or are they?
Celebrated artist Peter Brown’s stylish illustrations pair perfectly with Aaron Reynold’s text in this hilarious picture book that shows it’s all fun and games…until you get too greedy.

Littlebug Gets Spooky: Mom! There are creepy carrots in your bedroom! Ahhh!!! Then. They creeped into the backyard! Creepy creepy creeping carrots…boo! Then. There were shadows! Ahhh!!! I checked but there’s only a bucket mom, don’t be scared. Creepy carrots creeped and creeped all the way home, but they aren’t in our home anymore. No more creepy carrots in our home mom!

I love the Creepy Carrots book! The carrots are silly and hide everywhere in Jasper rabbit’s house, but his mom and dad never find him. At the end he gets all of the carrots, but I won’t say the silly thing that happens. It’s so silly! Creeeeeeepy Carrots! Ooooooo!!!

Mom’s Two Cents: Jasper Rabbit has a big problem. He can’t stop chomping down all the carrots in Crackenhopper Field and they’ve had enough! Chomp chomp chomp each and every day. When Jasper begins to see creepy carrots any and everywhere his feelings for carrots start to change from love to fear. His every attempt to catch the creepy carrots in the act don’t work, but finally, on the last attempt, Jasper solves his problem once and for all.

In a modern take on the classic Twilight Zone series, Aaron Reynolds and Peter Brown combine talents to bring Creepy Carrots to life. This is by far one of the most hilarious yet slightly dark picture books recently published. In the same vein as This Is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen, Reynolds and Brown create a book that has a bit of an edge that parents will love but that kiddos will get a crack out of. At first it seemed as though Littlebug might be a little nervous and scared reading through the beginning, but after an exuberant read-through together she hasn’t put this one down much at all recently. It’s all about the delivery. I’m positive that had I simply read Creepy Carrots in a boring straight forward way without bringing the “goofy factor” to the story while reading it aloud she could have easily been terrified of carrots for the rest of her life. Okay, well, maybe not. I’m not sure that’s even possible. Haha.

Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated brilliantly by Peter Brown has quickly become one of Littlebug’s go-to reads. The story of a rabbit obsessed with eating carrots could be boring and lackluster, but with the fantastic storytelling of Aaron Reynolds and the classic noir style illustrations this is a story that not only carries a bit of an edge but sparks giggles from everyone reading. I’m thrilled to have had the chance to meet Peter at BEA, especially now that I’ve seen the hilarious video he put together for the book (see it below!). Creepy Carrots is a book that we’ll be reading for years to come, in fact, I may go read it right now!

The1stdaughter Recommends: Ages 2 and up. A perfectly creepy and hilarious tale of a very gluttonous rabbit. Parents will adore reading this one aloud and kiddos will ask for it again and again!
