There's A Book

This fabulous weekly recap is hosted by Shelia of One Persons Journey Through a World of Books and the kidlit version is hosted by Jen from Teach Mentor Texts. Each week we recap what we’ve read and look at what’s coming up this week. If you’re interested head over to Shelia’s site as well as Jen’s and get involved! It’s a blast and I may even stop by to see what you’re up to!

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:

Well, this is actually a two week wrap-up. I’ve been incredibly busy with writing and life. Turkeybird is getting set to go to Kindergarten in less than two weeks and I’m positive I’m more nervous about this then he is. Still, despite the craziness it’s been a good busy couple of weeks and I’ve even managed to read a few great books!

  1. Hope you get through all your books this week! Love the cover for The Book of Tomorrow and Come August.

  2. BookBelle says:

I’m glad you enjoyed The Book of Tomorrow. I read that last year and really loved it. I also loved P.S. I Love You and had mixed feelings about Ahern’s other books.

  3. Is the house going to feel totally empty with just one kiddo running around? I bet your little one is going to love having mama to herself.

  4. Oh wow, Danielle, once again I am amazed by all that you do, all that you read, and all that you feature in this fantastic website. I haven’t updated our Picture Book challenge yet in your database. Perhaps by the end of August, I shall include all the books we have reviewed since June. We’re keeping close tabs though, and I think we’re halfway through our goal, if I’m not mistaken. Great titles here. :)

  5. Katya says:

I can’t wait to read Liar and Spy.

I hope In a Glass Grimly is as good as the first book. The first book is so popular at the library that I haven’t been able to read it yet — it’s always out.

  6. Linda Baie says:

I went back to read your review of Liar & Spy-beautifully said. Sadly in my experience with middle schoolers they don’t have that independence given anymore. I liked that Georges could roam around alone or with friends & that his parents respected that, but still kept closely connected. You touched on that too. Thanks for all the good ideas for new books.

  7. Jennifer says:

I rarely have a chance to read children’s books now that my kids are older but I sure love seeing them here on your blog. The covers are always so darn cute!

  8. Kristen says:

Cannot wait to dig into The Unwanteds book 2. :) And In A Grass Grimmly as well, loved A Tale Dark and Grimm! Happy reading!

  9. Hannahlily says:

I have an ARC of The Peculiar. Haven’t decided whether or not I want to read it. Will be eagerly awaiting your opinion!

  10. Maria says:

Oooh! A new Peter Reynolds book! I’ll be checking back for your thoughts. I love Ish.

There are some intriguing examples of cover art on your list. I know they say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, but…

  11. I got to hear Peter Reynolds read this one at a conference this summer :)

Liar and Spy is so high on my list right now!

  12. Jen says:

I’m so excited to hear what you think of In a Glass Grimmly! I think you will enjoy it. The writing and the story is so unique! You amaze me every time, chica! Have you read The Kissing Hand? I love that story for the beginning of the year and I am going to give it to my 5yo on the first day of school. :)

  13. V(Bookborne) says:

Busy lady! You must be terribly organized.

The book of tomorrow is the same cover image from Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith… for a second I thought that’s what you were reading.
