There's A Book

The Insomniacs by Karina Wolf and Illustrated by The Brothers Hilts

The wonder of nighttime comes to life in this breathtaking debut.

When the Insomniacs move twelve time zones away for Mrs. Insomniac’s new job, the family has an impossible time adapting to the change. They try everything to fall asleep at night–take hot baths, count to one thousand, sip mugs of milk–but nothing helps. Venturing out into the dark, they learn there is a whole world still awake and a beauty in their new and unconventional schedule.

Ideal for bedtime reading, this gorgeous and lyrical story celebrates nighttime’s mystery and magic.

So today’s picture book pick is a bit of an indulgence for me, I’m a huge fan of this style of illustration and have long been a reader of darker storytelling. This is perfect! Now, having said that the Turkeybird is also a fan as well so it’s not entirely an indulgent read. Love the illustrations, love the story. A really fun debut and I can’t wait for more!

How curious! Loving the cover art and the story…I can definiteyl sympathize with the off schedule. LOL. Time zone changes are hard enough to deal with on vacation let alone on a permanent basis! Great pick as usual Danielle…thanks for sharing!

  2. Sounds neat. Like something I would enjoy for myself.
