Publishers Summary:

A story where getting dressed inspires big dreams!
Each day is full of possibilities, and Zoe wants to be ready for everything this one might bring. But that makes getting dressed really, really hard! If it’s a twirling day, she’ll need to wear the purple skirt. But if it’s a cartwheeling day, she’ll want the polka-dot tights. Or it might be a hiding day, perfect for the flower crown that will help her blend into the garden . . . or a flying day, which demands butterfly wings! As the clothes pile up and Mama tells her it’s time to go, there’s only one way Zoe can be sure she’s prepared for all the adventures ahead — a solution that will have parents laughing in recognition and kids nodding in satisfaction. Zoe Gets Ready is perfect for all those little girls who wouldn’t have things any other way.

Littlebug’s Getting Dressed Up: Zoe is so super neat! She likes to wear fun stuff and run around playing just like me. My favoritest is her skirt, but I really like her scarf that my mom told me is some boa thingy. I think I might try to wear a bunch of stuff all at once some time like Zoe because that would be super super fun and my mom would laugh a lot at me.

Zoe is super silly and I really really liked all her fun clothes. Maybe the butterfly wings were the favoritest though I think.

Mom’s Two Cents: It’s Saturday and there’s no school for Zoe. Nothing that she needs to be dressed up for, no matching outfits to be paired and certainly no activities to plan for which means Zoe can wear anything she chooses. The real question is though, what will she choose? From things with pockets to wings to frilly skirts and a sweater there are almost too many options for Zoe to decide on. As her mom’s patience wears thin and as the day’s adventures approach Zoe does finally choose just the right outfit, one that’s perfect for her.

Zoe Gets Ready was the perfect book for Littlebug. It’s possible that in an alternate universe of some sort that Littlebug and Zoe are sisters, that’s how perfect the book is for her. Much like other little girls with closets full of fun things to wear both Zoe and Littlebug have tough choices to make when the day’s outfit is left up to them. Often what they select says much about not only their mood, but their expectations for the day and the adventures it may hold. We’ve had so much fun reading this one over and over again, simply because of that connection. Littlebug often pointed out aspects of Zoe’s wardrobe and the activities that accompanied them that she had in her own closet.

More often than not kiddos are told what to wear and how to act in nearly every situation, but on certain occasion their freedom is let loose. In Zoe Gets Ready by Bethanie Murguia the main character, Zoe, has the freedom to pick whatever outfit she’d like solely because it’s a Saturday. Indecisiveness sets in as Zoe tries on nearly everything she owns, but in the end her personality takes hold and she chooses just the right outfit. Zoe Gets Ready has been read a number of times and I have no doubt it will continue to be enjoyed for quite a long time. Bethanie Murguia has written not only a fun relate-able character, but also a story of adventure, choices and individuality that young readers will connect with in an instant.

The1stdaughter Recommends: Ages 2 to 7. Perfect for the indecisive and free spirited kiddo in your life. A wonderfully well-written adventure that young readers will relate to and older readers will enjoy reading aloud.
