There's A Book

This fabulous weekly recap is hosted by Shelia of One Persons Journey Through a World of Books and the kidlit version is hosted by Jen from Teach Mentor Texts. Each week we recap what we’ve read and look at what’s coming up this week. If you’re interested head over to Shelia’s site as well as Jen’s and get involved! It’s a blast and I may even stop by to see what you’re up to!

Here’s what we’ve been up to this week:

This week has been a blast. I’ve mostly been playing catch up after my trip to Seattle for ALA Mid-Winter and reading a lot, but I’ve had so many new books to enjoy that I really can’t be bothered to do much else. I’m also editing away and recently started an idea for a new book I’ll be writing. It’s so exciting and I can’t wait to see where things go with it!

What’s up for the week to come:

This week I’m going to share my newly set up Vine video that I made for our weekend reading stack. If you haven’t tried out Vine I’d highly recommend it! It’s an iPhone app that allows you to make six second gif type videos you can use on social media and whatnot. I think it’s pretty cool! (click on the black box to get the video to play. may take a couple of clicks.)

I looked at Immortal, but the number of girls asking for paranormal romances has dropped so significantly that I can’t move anything that looks vaguely vampire-y. Have you read Cinders and Sapphires? It was on Netgalley and was sort of a YA Downtown Abbey book.

I can’t wait to check out Glamorous Glasses and, btw, love your dual reviews (child and parent). I’m looking forward to reading what you think of Out of the Easy. I gave my ARC to a friend and haven’t heard anyone talk about it yet. I picked up Citizen Scientists this week since it got a Caldecott honor. I really liked it, although I wouldn’t say it’s the type of picture book for young readers.

Love your blog! Out of the Easy is on my Wish List!

  4. Ha :) Love Glamorous Glasses – might be my kind of book. Gonna see if my library has it! If not, guess what we’ll be buying! <3, a happy librarian who wears glasses!

Whatcha readin’ this week @ the Brunette Librarian and Don’t forget to enter to win Philippa Gregory’s “Changeling”

  5. Tara says:

The picture books look adorable. So does “Glamorous Glasses.” My sixth graders are not into paranormal romances this year – the Twilight effect seems to have passed, thank goodness!

  6. i need to get mila 2.0 read as well. hope you enjoy them :)

  7. Dollycas says:

Love all the kids books. Immortal just wouldn’t be my cup of tea, lol

  8. Hannahlily says:

Can’t wait to hear what you thought of Out of the Easy. I know people who have loved and it and people who have…not.

  9. Maria says:

The Flora and the Flamingo cover caught my attention when you shared it earlier this week (I think? Twitter? Instagram? I have no idea…) It’s pink, so it will go over big in our house ;)

  10. I love the visual combination of Glamorous Glasses and The Immortal Rules! That’s funny :)

Curious to see what you think of Fellowship. I read and reviewed it last week.

  11. I’m reading Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz, which swept the awards last week. I’m loving it. It reminds me that all YA doesn’t have to sound alike or be alike. This is one authentic and moving story of a teen trying to find who he is.

  12. Jennifer says:

Ohhhh, Mila 2.0!! That’s one that I am looking forward to big time!! I’ve seen the blurb for The Murmurings. Curious to hear what you think of it…I think it’s too creepy for me :)

  13. I really need to read Immortal Rules! Out of Easy is on my list too. Have a great reading week!

  14. I adored Black Rabbit. Such a clever book about managing fear :-) Cannot wait to read Out of the Easy. I have lent Between Shades of Gray to so many. Such a fantastic title.
