We can’t stop dancing! Our favoritest is to make all the music in the air, but the wake-up song and the ears hang low song are super silly too. The very best part is that we get to dance while we make our mom sing everything. We always have her stop the music before every new song so that she can read all the words to the song that’s coming on so that we can now how it goes. Sometimes we even get her to dance along with us while she sings and acts silly with us. It’s the very best! We super super super love this book and all the fun music!

Mom’s Two Cents: Sometimes kiddos who love to sit and read all day just need to get up and move. And what gets kids moving better than music, especially music by non-other than singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb. Her newest book Songs for Movin’ and Shakin’ features ten songs with lyrics and accompanying music that gets kids moving and giggling.

Truth be told I’m a music junkie. Prior to having kiddos I’d preformed by either singing or playing the flute in places such as the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. Sadly when little (well, not so little anymore) Turkeybird arrived on the scene that singing and flute playing all but came to a screeching halt. For one reason or another, despite having played throughout my pregnancy, anytime I made a sound in any musical fashion Turkeybird would scream until I stopped. I still played my flute in a local orchestral group, but it was hard not to be involved with that at home. Thankfully Turkeybird has started to come around in the last year or so and he even requests that I sing to him each night now. Yay!

So quite obviously, when I received Songs for Movin’ and Shakin’ by Lisa Loeb and Ryan O’Rourke I was beyond thrilled to discover an accompanying CD with the music to the lyrics within the book. Littlebug immediately had me play the CD and it hasn’t stopped since then. Before each new song starts we sit down, turn the page to the song lyrics, I read them aloud to the kiddos and then we play the music. Both kiddos beg for me to sing the songs and dance around with them; to be honest, I can hardly resist such a request because it’s too much fun.

Songs for Movin’ and Shakin’ by Lisa Loeb and Ryan O’Rourke is not only a picture book with gorgeous illustrations and words, but a way to get the whole family singing and dancing. With each song brings new adorable characters and lyrics to read about as well as the opportunity to get up and shake shake shake. Our family has been completely taken with this delightful little book and it’s accompanying music. In fact, since this is the second book in this series by Lisa Loeb we’ll be picking up the first so that we can have more material to read, listen and get shaking to.

The1stdaughter Recommends: Ages 2 to 9. Get your kiddos movin’ and your voice singing with this fun beautifully illustrated picture song book.

One thing to note is that last I checked Lisa Loeb’s Songs for Movin’ and Shakin’ was only $5 at Barnes & Noble and on Amazon! I’m not sure how long that will last, but it’s definitely worth picking up quickly.

Love Lisa Loeb too, especially after watching her reality show. I guess she has kids now which would explain this move to kids’ music? So happy for her!
