Publishers Summary:

Something strange is happening to the sixth grade—and it’s up to student scientist Wilmer Dooley to crack the case in this fast-paced novel full of humor and mystery.
If there’s one important thing Wilmer Dooley’s dad always says, it’s this: “Where are my car keys?”

Okay, maybe not that. He also says: “Observe!”

Wilmer has always known that the greatest science comes from the keenest observations. So when he observes his classmates looking a little green…and orange…and chartreuse-fuchsia polka-dotted…he knows that it’s up to him to find the cause of this mysterious illness—and the cure.

But with his arch nemesis, Claudius Dill, hot on his heels; the eagle-eyed biology teacher, Mrs. Padgett, determined to thwart his plans; and a host of fluorescent classmates bouncing off the walls at increasingly dangerous speeds, can Wilmer prove he has what it takes to save the sixth grade from a colorful demise before it’s too late?

Today I’m not sharing a review because this book is actually next on the Turkeybird’s evening chapter book reads. We have always read to both Littlebug and Turkeybird together and I often have shared middle grade stories throughout the day with the Turkeybird, but recently we started something different. I made the decision to read each night, just the two of us, a chapter or two out of a “big kid” book that the Turkeybird chooses.

It’s been a wonderful experience sitting down and focusing on just his thoughts and experiences on a book that’s “bigger” and one that he’s picked. I’d highly recommend doing this! Especially if you have a kiddo who doesn’t like to talk much about his day at school, I’ve been shocked by what I learn about his day during this time we spend reading just the two of us and I love it!

His first choice was The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes (we love it!) and the very next day The Contagious Colors of Mumpley Middle School came in the mail and he begged to read it next. So I promise a full report on both when we finish up! Until then, enjoy this great giveaway and the trailer for this fantastic new series!

I think these two are somewhat old, but growing up I loved SpellFall and the Unicorns of Balinor series. I think both are targeted toward girls, but I hunted them down and plan to share them with my son, too. I highly recommend them!
