A Bit of Me(Me) – What Are You Thankful For?

Posted on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 by the1stdaughter

Today A Bit of Me(Me) is being hosted at right here with a question from Kellee at Teach Mentor Texts! So, lets take a look at this week’s question…

What are you thankful for?

What a huge question for so few words. There are so many things I’m thankful for, but obviously the first thing would definitely be my family.

I’m away from home while typing this or I’d have a picture of our whole family. I’m grateful for those two kiddos more than anything else in the world though. They both have given me so much simply by being in my life and I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that they enjoy reading as much as I do (maybe more!). I’m even grateful for the hard days with them because I’ve changed into a much better person because of those challenges. All of it has been worth it.

Another thing I’m grateful for is my husband. So much. He has a stable job he works very hard at and that’s more than a lot of people have right now in this economy, for that I’m extremely grateful. He’s also an amazing father and support to me, I definitely wouldn’t be the person I am without him.

I’ve also got an amazing extended family! We just celebrated the birth of a new nephew and have another nephew still on the way. It’s incredible! My sisters are wonderful as are their spouses and my parents. I have fantastic in-laws and my husband’s brothers & their wives are also wonderful. It’s an amazing family and I’ve been given so much.

As for everything else…it’s all just gravy. I’ve got books coming out of my ears and it just doesn’t get much better than that. We have a wonderful home that keeps us warm at night, we live in the “Happiest City in America” and have great friends. I have a great life filled with incredible people and so many things I could probably go on for days, but I think I’ll end here.

So, what are you thankful for at this time of Thanksgiving?

Make sure to head over to Teach Mentor Texts next week where Jen will be hosting the following question:

Do you like parades and do you have a favorite this time of year?

A Bit of Me(Me) – Thanksgiving Foods…Maybe

Posted on Saturday, November 12th, 2011 by the1stdaughter

Today A Bit of Me(Me) is being hosted at Teach Mentor Texts by Kellee and it was a tough question to be honest, but I’ll tell you more about why in a minute. First, take a look at this week’s question…

Thanksgiving in the US is right around the corner. What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food? If you’re not in the US, what’s your favorite holiday season food?

So why? I know you are all thinking, “what could be so bad about a whole bunch of really fantastic food and wonderful company?” Well, on thing…it’s my birthday. Yes, my birthday quite often falls on Thanksgiving Day (this year I’ll miss it by two days) and though I love the holiday I suffer from a similar problem as Christmas birthday people do. My problem…FOOD!

Imagine this: You’re at your family’s home for Thanksgiving, the wonderful aroma of mashed potatoes, beans, turkey, pumpkin pie and more waft through the air. Everyone is enjoying the food as well as the company. Inevitably, the “stuffing” of the individual has been completed and nearly everyone is sitting in varying states of “food comma” when suddenly your mother brings out a giant cake…with ice cream. Ready to jump up to shovel more in? I guessed not.

Okay, so this all sounds terribly negative and it really isn’t. Minus the overstuffing and almost always feeling sick by the end of the day it’s usually a great day to have a birthday because everyone is there for it. Rarely have I had a lonely birthday and that’s the best part in my opinion.

Now, to actually answer the question…my favorite Thanksgiving food would definitely be a tie between the mashed potatoes and my mom’s deviled eggs. Without either it would be a completely different holiday. Love them both!

So, do you have a favorite Thanksgiving or holiday food? I’d love to know!

A Bit of Me(Me) – How Do You Take Your Cereal?

Posted on Saturday, November 5th, 2011 by the1stdaughter

Today A Bit of Me(Me) is being hosted at Crystal’s site, I Totally Paused!, and I couldn’t help but participate because I love the question. Take a look…

How do you eat your cereal? Do you like it crispy or soggy? Do you like it with milk or without milk? Do you like lots of milk or just a smidge?

We eat a lot of cereal in this house. A LOT. Oddly enough, before meeting my husband I rarely even ate breakfast. Most of the time it made me sick to my stomach (still does a bit in fact) and I was always in such a hurry that the tummy aches were never really worth it. Well, now that I’ve gotten to know my hubby’s family I’ve come to realize that cereal is not only a morning affair. We eat cereal at almost any time of the day for whatever reason we can come up with and it’s perfect!

As for how I eat my cereal…it really depends. There are certain cereals like Cookie Crisp that I cannot stand to eat soggy, which means I eat it with little milk and very quickly. Then there are other cereals like Frosted Mini-Wheats that I like with a lot of milk and sliced fresh strawberries. Yum! (I’m getting hungry typing this. Maybe I’ll have a bowl before bed.) Outside of those, and perhaps a few other variations, I’ll eat just about any cereal there is but I almost always love my cereal drowning in milk. And yes, much to my mother-in-law’s chagrin (hehe) I love cereals that turn the milk colors like Coco Puffs. Yummy!

So, what about you? Do you like cereal and have a favorite kind? Are you even a breakfast kind of person? I’d love to know!

A Bit of Me(Me) – Just One Thing

Posted on Friday, October 21st, 2011 by the1stdaughter

Today A Bit of Me(Me) is back at There’s A Book this week and Kellee at Teach Mentor Texts has provided quite the question this week. Take a look…

If you could pick one TV show, one movie, one song and one book to limit yourself to for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

How is this even possible? One of each of these when they are clearly my “junk food”. So lets see…these are definitely only the “at the moment” choices. I’m positive that if you were to ask me again in five years from now my answers would be completely different. But here goes…

TV Show:
My So-Called Life
This is one from my teens that never fails to capture my attention. It’s timeless and if it was all I could watch, I’d be okay with that.

Movie:
This is perhaps the only relatively easy choice: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
It’s incredibly long, it’s extremely good and I’ve already watched it a billion times without getting sick of it.

Song:
This is impossible, you know? I’m a musician and it’s likely this is a more difficult question than even picking only one book. So, I’d have to go with:
Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D Minor VI – Confutatis and Lacrimosa
It’s gorgeous and has everything I’d expect from a piece of music I want to listen to forever.

Book:
For this answer, though I’d like to pick any number of other books I’d have to pick one that is the source of my religious faith: The Book of Mormon. If it were possible to bring another book I’d bring the Bible as well because they compliment and support me in my life on a daily basis.

Next week’s A Bit of Me(Me) will be hosted back at Teach Mentor Texts with Jen, so don’t forget to swing by there next time to link-up! And here is next weeks question as well as this week’s link-up:
Describe your perfect winter day.

A Bit of Me(Me) – Kermit the Frog

Posted on Saturday, September 24th, 2011 by the1stdaughter

Today A Bit of Me(Me) is back at There’s A Book! Yay! I’m a little late getting the post up because I had surgery yesterday. If I was on top of things I would have scheduled it in advance, but here I am typing away. LOL

So, last week Kellee at Teach Mentor Texts came up with the question for this week and I think it’s fabulous! Take a look:

What childhood toy, blanket, stuffed animal, etc. do you still have and cherish?

For me, this is an easy one. It’s a toy I just couldn’t go anywhere without and it’s still in with all of my childhood favorites. It’s my very own Kermit the Frog doll:

As a child I loved playing with Kermie, as I called him, and I watched every show or movie where he was involved. My two favorites being The Muppet Movie and A Muppet Christmas Carol. It’s been fun to pass these along to my kiddos now and see how much they enjoy them. I love it!

So what about you? Do you have a favorite from your childhood?

Next week’s A Bit of Me(Me) will be hosted back at Teach Mentor Texts with Jen, so don’t forget to swing by there next time to link-up! And here is next weeks question as well as this week’s link-up:
Have you met or worked with any famous people? Who? Where? When?

A Bit of Me(Me) – Fall Favorites

Posted on Saturday, September 10th, 2011 by the1stdaughter

So, lets say you stopped by today hoping to link-up your post for A Bit of Me(Me) only to discover I’m not hosting it, where to go? Well, I’d tell you to head over to Crystal’s site, I Totally Paused, where she’s hosting this week’s meme. That’s where you will also be able to find the question for next week as well! This week I’m a bit late because I was stressing over my first ever vlog. It’s all done and will be up a bit later, but for now…lets get this going! So, what’s the question this week? Here goes:

What is your fall favorite? Share a fall recipe, activity, memory, or any other fall favorite!

My absolute favorite part of Fall is definitely the changing of the colors. It doesn’t happen much here in sunny California, but when we lived back East it was something I looked forward to each and every year. Simply gorgeous. Take a look…

Okay, so perhaps these were taken on my old camera, but still…the colors are gorgeous. I miss the way the air turns a bit chilly and has a bit of a crispness to it that it didn’t have in the spring/summer. Love it! I hope we can get back East some time, but until then I’ll keep dreaming.
