We all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.

I know, some of you are skeptical about putting yourself out there on the internet and I completely respect that. That’s the entire reason I have no desire to ever reveal the “real” names of The Turkeybird and Littlebug. In time, once they’re old enough, if they chose to do that on their own I will respect their decision. So, if ever during the time I’m doing this meme do you feel the question is just too personal for your liking, feel free to post something else, I never want anyone to feel uncomfortable with what they share and I promise it will always be “kid-friendly”. I mean, this is a primarily children’s and young adult site, you know?

So, let’s get started!

This Weeks Question: Are you fond of cooking?

This is a bit of a funny question. Well, yes, I am fond of cooking, but not so much with little ones at the moment. I guess I should say with really little ones. Turkeybird does pretty well now with helping out in the kitchen, especially when you give him a task to complete and then he’s fantastic! Littlebug on the other hand, lets just say she’s going through a very “independent” stage and has an OCD momma who goes crazy with food all over the kitchen. So, hopefully this won’t last long and we can get back to cooking more soon, because I do really enjoy it. Of course my hubby might disagree with me since he’s really The Baker in the house, but that’s okay…he can make some fabulous desserts!

Part of the reason I’ve enjoyed cooking in the past has a lot to do with my own parents. My dad has long been the “chef” in our house and my mom the “baker”. In fact my mom was the one who made our wedding cake and so it stands to reason that I’d like being in the kitchen even a little bit. When I do get time to cook I love things like fish tacos with home-made tortillas, chicken tetrazzini, enchiladas, cream cheese croissants and more. Hopefully one day soon I can figure out how to make all these not-so-healthy but really tasty dishes a bit more healthy and keep on cooking!

Now, your turn! Link up below and tell everyone “A Bit of You!”

Next Week’s Question: If you were going to be stuck on a deserted island, which 5 books, movies, people and foods would you take along?
Have a question to add? I’d love some suggestions! Just leave them in the comments and I’ll see about adding them in as we go!

Also, feel free to grab either of the buttons for your own “A Bit of Me(Me)” post (or create your own), but make sure to link back to There’s A Book. (You can also resize these down to a smaller size if you’d like.)

Our number one favorite book from him would have to be Everyday Friday, or possibly Goodnight Mr. Night, or any number of his incredible TV shows we love like Oswald and The Backyardigans. Well, I don’t know where I’ve been, but he has another fantastic looking book out! Out in October of this year, Cooking with Henry and Elliebelly looks a little bit like “Cooking with Turkeybird and Littlebug”. (Yes, I’m absolutely chuckling while typing that!) So, without a doubt this one is going under the tree this year for Christmas and I’m positive it will be a huge hit!

Take a look and don’t forget to watch the book trailer at the bottom, it’s perfect!

Recently, we were able to attend a signing of the new cookbook by the one and only “Pioneer Woman“. And now by “we” I mean, The1stdaughter, Littlebug and of course I dragged The Baker along. More than anything it was a great opportunity to meet a wonderful mom, get a new GREAT cookbook and spend time with two of my favorite people (my own mom and one of my two sisters). We had a blast, despite the heat, and of course Bug was a huge hit!

Because I want to take this opportunity to continue the fun we had and make the best of it I decided, why not get an extra copy signed for one of my lucky readers? So, in honor of the new beginning that is There’s A Book I give you our very first book giveaway! One of you out there will be the new owner of a brand new, never used, SIGNED copy of The Pioneer Woman Cooks by Ree Drummond! The exact one in the image above! Just fill out what you want on the form below and on January 1st 2010 I will announce the winner.

As a note I want to say that so far this cookbook is fabulous! We’ve tried a few of the recipes including the “Egg-in-the-Hole”, “Meatloaf”, “Olive Cheese Bread”, and my personal favorite (so far) “Edna Mae’s Sour Cream Pancakes”. The pancakes quite literally melt in your mouth and I think it is quite possible that I could eat them morning, noon and night without any problem whatsoever. One of the amazing things about this cookbook is that it’s not just a cookbook. It has stories and pictures of her everyday life and every time I’ve picked it up I’ve found something else to look at or try. Normally I don’t think I’d be inclined to review any old cookbook (although The Baker definitely would), but Ree is such a family gal that it shines through in every recipe in the book. It reminds me of home, of being with my dad and his parents on their farm during harvest time. The feeling of comfort, home, family and food so delicious because it was picked just that day is what this book helps me remember. Thank you Ree for that.

I would recommend this cookbook to anyone looking for an all around, every meal, comfort food fest. It’s fabulous and I’ll cook out of it for years to come!

Take a minute to fill out the form and I will let everyone know on the 1st of the New Year 2010 who one. Good luck and thanks for reading!

Here’s the Form Just Click to Fill it Out. Thanks!

*Also, as an update, this contest is open to anyone anywhere in the world that I can ship to.*
