A Bit of Me(Me) – Kermit the Frog

Posted on Saturday, September 24th, 2011 by the1stdaughter

Today A Bit of Me(Me) is back at There’s A Book! Yay! I’m a little late getting the post up because I had surgery yesterday. If I was on top of things I would have scheduled it in advance, but here I am typing away. LOL

So, last week Kellee at Teach Mentor Texts came up with the question for this week and I think it’s fabulous! Take a look:

What childhood toy, blanket, stuffed animal, etc. do you still have and cherish?

For me, this is an easy one. It’s a toy I just couldn’t go anywhere without and it’s still in with all of my childhood favorites. It’s my very own Kermit the Frog doll:

As a child I loved playing with Kermie, as I called him, and I watched every show or movie where he was involved. My two favorites being The Muppet Movie and A Muppet Christmas Carol. It’s been fun to pass these along to my kiddos now and see how much they enjoy them. I love it!

So what about you? Do you have a favorite from your childhood?

Next week’s A Bit of Me(Me) will be hosted back at Teach Mentor Texts with Jen, so don’t forget to swing by there next time to link-up! And here is next weeks question as well as this week’s link-up:
Have you met or worked with any famous people? Who? Where? When?

A Bit of Me(Me) – Blogs Blogs Everywhere

Posted on Sunday, September 4th, 2011 by the1stdaughter

It’s hard to believe, but this is the first week I’m not hosting this meme, but simply participating in it. Wow! And it would also figure that I’m of course late in posting about it. To my credit we have company for the holiday weekend and I’m also trying to wrap up a few loose ends with projects and interviews before the week starts again.
I know, it never stops!

So, lets say you stopped by today hoping to link-up your post for A Bit of Me(Me) only to discover I’m not hosting it, where to go? Well, I’d tell you to head over to Jen & Kellee’s site Teach Mentor Texts where they are hosting this week’s meme. That’s where you will also be able to find the question for next week as well! So, what’s the question this week? Here goes:

Share your favorite blogs, bookish or not, that you can’t go a single day without visiting.

Another thing about me being late with this post…this is an incredibly hard choice! There are so many blogs I love! Recently I’ve been a terrible commenter as well, serious lurking going on on my part. I know, it’s terrible! As for my answer, I’d first of all direct you to my Blog Roll that’s also listed at the top of the page because there I try to keep up all the blogs I visit frequently. More specifically, here are just a few, but remember! These are only a few! I read a lot of blogs!

Tales of Whimsy
Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers
Pop Culture Nerd
Thoughtful Eating
Not a blog, but still an addiction:
Pinterest

Okay, that’s all! I’m limiting myself to those, because honestly I know I’m forgetting to add about a hundred or more blogs that currently reside in my Google Reader. I feel terrible for leaving you all off, but I have to get some sleep at some point. Just know that I still love all of you and I’m constantly on the lookout for more blogs to love and follow! So, please don’t be shy…leave a comment if you aren’t on my Blog Roll already, I’d love to add your blog and get to know you!

A Bit of Me(Me) – Best of the Best

Posted on Friday, August 26th, 2011 by the1stdaughter

We all leave our “footprint” on the world, in one way or another. We each, individually, do something or are someone that makes the world a little better just by being here. I created this weekly meme to get to know the blogging community I love just a bit better. To know what makes them tick, outside of books, that is. Each week I will post a question to be answered in the following week’s “A Bit of Me(Me)”. Check back each Saturday to get the info for next week’s post and link up with your current post right here.

I know, some of you are skeptical about putting yourself out there on the internet and I completely respect that. That’s the entire reason I have no desire to ever reveal the “real” names of The Turkeybird and Littlebug. In time, once they’re old enough, if they chose to do that on their own I will respect their decision. So, if ever during the time I’m doing this meme do you feel the question is just too personal for your liking, feel free to post something else, I never want anyone to feel uncomfortable with what they share and I promise it will always be “kid-friendly”. I mean, this is a primarily children’s and young adult site, you know?

So, let’s get started!

This Weeks Question: What’s been the best part of participating and/or do you have a favorite question you loved answering?

Without any doubt my favorite part of participating thus far has been all of the participants. We may be small in numbers now, we weren’t always. So I thought I’d take a minute to thank each and every blogger who has been a part of this wonderful event so far. Don’t go anywhere though! Make sure to read the special announcement at the bottom carefully before taking off!

Thank you all! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you throughout the last year or so. It’s incredible to see the number of bloggers who have put together posts and shared so much of themselves over this time. Each of you is absolutely wonderful! I hope I was able to post everyone who participated, if I missed you, don’t be shy…leave your name in the comments!

Now, for the announcement!

I’m sure it will surprise none of you, but I had a few participants express their desire for A Bit of Me(Me) to continue. As I mentioned my schedule is a bit hectic right now and I knew I couldn’t manage on my own. So, thanks to three wonderful participants we’re going to keep the meme going by co-hosting the event!

Jen at Teach Mentor Texts
Crystal at I Totally Paused!
Kellee at Teach Mentor Texts

These three wonderful ladies will be rotating the hosting of our fantastic meme, giving me a much needed reprieve. Don’t fear though! I’ll still be participating! We’ll be co-hosting round-robin style, in the order listed above with me going last. If any of you would like to volunteer to co-host on a regular basis please let me know in the comments and I’ll get in touch!

So, next week’s A Bit of Me(Me) will be hosted by Jen at Teach Mentor Texts where she will provide the link-up and the next question for the following week. Until then, thank you again to everyone!

Now, your turn! Link up below and tell everyone “A Bit of You!”Next Week’s Question (link-up with your answer at Jen’s site): Share your favorite blogs, bookish or not, that you can’t go a single day without visiting.

Have a question to add? I’d love some suggestions! Just leave them in the comments and I’ll see about adding them in as we go!Also, feel free to grab either of the buttons for your own “A Bit of Me(Me)” post (or create your own), but make sure to link back to There’s A Book. A Bit of Me(Me) – It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like…

So, let’s get started!

This Weeks Question: Do you have a favorite holiday? Which one?

Photo courtesy of Half Baked – The Cake Blog

Absolutely! But perhaps not just one. Hehe. My top choice would absolutely be Easter. With it’s plethora of wonderful candy, bunnies, Spring and of course it’s meaning I can’t help but love it. It’s been my favorite since I was a child searching my house for my Easter basket and I hope to continue the tradition with my own kiddos!

A close second, especially now that I have kiddos…Christmas! I haven’t always been a fan, but as my children get older and are in the stage where Santa is still very much a “real” person, it’s unbelievably fun. I’ve always been a person who loves giving presents that mean something to another person, either because it’s something they never would have thought someone would remember or it’s simply a surprise, I just love it. So it’s perfect! Along with the crispness in the air and the meaning for the season, I absolutely love it and can’t wait for it to come again very soon!

On a somewhat less positive note, I really don’t like Thanksgiving. What can I say? I love the meaning and the family, but it lands on my birthday every few years. For those of you with a “Christmas” birthday, I envy you…I’d take less presents over being so full you can’t eat your own birthday cake without puking any day. Really, it’s not that bad, but for some reason or another I just can’t seem to fall in love with the holiday though I do love the meaning and the season.

Now, your turn! Link up below and tell everyone “A Bit of You!”

Announcement Time!

Unfortunately my schedule has become insane and I’ve got so many reviews piled up, not to mention a busy Fall in my life right now. So, with that being said…next week’s question will be the last one for awhile. I may resume the feature at some point in the future, but after next week it will go on hiatus.

Next Week’s Question, the Last Question for A Bit of Me(Me) at least for awhile: What’s been the best part of participating and/or do you have a favorite question you loved answering?
Have a question to add? I’d love some suggestions! Just leave them in the comments and I’ll see about adding them in as we go!

A Bit of Me(Me) – Summertime!

I mean, this is a primarily children’s and young adult site, you know?

So, let’s get started!

This Weeks Question: What’s one activity you’re looking forward to or that you’ve already done this summer?

This was a bit premeditated in my asking due to the fact that we just got back from a fantastic trip to Waterton in Alberta Canada. I needed a day to share a bit about the trip and thought it would be great chance to see what everyone else was up to as well. So, I can’t wait to see where and what everyone’s summers have been like!

Our trip was wonderful! I’d never been to Canada at all, but my husband grew up going there every three years and I was pretty eager to see what the fuss was all about. It was gorgeous! From beautiful lakes to waterfalls and every type of wildlife you can imagine, I loved it!

As for the kiddos, one of their favorite things to do was to go to the lake and throw rocks into it. The Turkeybird especially wanted to do this whenever there was a lull in activities, though I have to warn you…step back a bit when he’s chucking those rocks in! There were quite a few times with he nearly pummeled someone in the side of the head with a rock by only an inch of space between them. Eeck! He definitely gets points for enthusiasm!

One of the days my hubby and his brothers went on an all day hike to lake in the top of a mountain called Crypt Lake. It’s a tradition to get to the top and jump into the lake that has an actual glacier in it! Well, this year they were a little disappointed when they discovered the lake was frozen in the section they’d normally jump in. Regardless, they had a great time!

Other than those few things we also were able to take a hike with the kiddos to some pretty spectacular waterfalls. Unfortunately, the Turkeybird wasn’t so thrilled about having his picture take there…

But we still had fun all the same! The very best and possibly most frightening part of the trip was the day the kiddos, myself and Papa went on a hike where we saw a total of four bears! Three were a momma bear and her two cubs, but the last was a bear that stood looking at me with only about 30 feet in distance between us. Needless to say I didn’t get any pictures!

We had a blast and on our way home we were also able to squeeze in some time in Utah with family and friends. In fact, I was able to meet up with some girlfriends from our law school days and also see a great friend from when we were first married, Natasha from Maw Books Blog & her boys. We had a bit of a scare when we lost the Turkeybird at one point, but thankfully a wonderful woman found him and brought him back to me. He told us later he was just running to show his Dad something, but forgot to tell Dad and just ran away. It was a terrifying experience, but I’m forever grateful for the stranger (whom I never met) who found him. Even with all of that, it was fantastic to see Natasha and my other friends again especially since the last time we saw each other none of our kiddos were very mobile. Also, funny to note, when Natasha and I knew each other originally, neither of us had a book blog…imagine that?!

All in all, a fabulous trip! We had a blast and are really looking forward to going back, especially when the kiddos are bigger and we can get out even more. This has definitely been a summer to remember!

Now, your turn! Link up below and tell everyone “A Bit of You!”

A Bit of Me(Me) – Tap Tap Tap

So, let’s get started!

This Weeks Question: At this very moment, which song makes your toes tap?

I’ve been a Weepies fan for as long as I can remember. Every song seems to grow on me the more I listen to it and I can’t help but want to have them playing in the background constantly. So, without a doubt my choice this week would have to be The Weepies singing “Same Changes” which also happens to be from a fabulous movie, Morning Glory. Take a listen…

If I were to pick a “quintessential” Weepies song it would have to be “The World Spins Madly On”. I love this song more than I can express. One of the really neat things about it was that my hubby actually grew up with an incredible artist, Ryan Woodward, who put his work together with the music in the following video…

Isn’t it brilliant?! I just adore this version of the song and video together. Just perfect.
